... and the most versatile knife in the world is considered to be a Machete... but for some reason surgeons still use scalpels. ;)

But thanks for the ...advice? ... I'll remember it and repeat it to myself as I buy a 25hp one... :)

The reason for asking about tyres was that so many Kubotas are fitted with big chunky Industrial tyres... and the cheaper Chinese variants with Ag tyres... I wondered if it was a quality thing, or a functionality thing.

Seems like Ag tyres are the perfect thing for me. :)

That was just SPAM from China Nick, we usually just ignore it. The moderators occasionally even delete it.

Signed a deal on a Foton/Europard 254 this afternoon... Managed to get they hydraulics for a future grapple thrown in with the deal.

Greg: The Air filter was infront of the Radiator, but not in a way that will significantly disturb airflow. The large 12V battery was below Radiator height, and just infront of it. Engine heater and FEL will be installed before delivery.

Time to build a wee shed on the side of the Garage I think... :D

Inspect each dipstick to check the quality of the respective fluids. Engine coolant too. You're looking for new fluids, not the dirty, wet, and discolored crap that these tractors are usually shipped with. An honest and competent dealer will drain and flush out all Chinese fluids, replacing them with fresh domestic stuff; engine coolant, engine oil, injection pump oil, front differential, mid-connect box (if so equipped), transmission/differential, hydraulics.

That was one of the many questions for the dealer.

The Dealer replaces all fluids that come with the crated machines replaced after final assembly and little warmup.: especially the diesel system which he said was usually filled with the worst diesel they'd ever witnessed - filling the sky with Black smoke.

They have good relations with the factory and have spares in stock. They're also happy to strip parts from crated machines should there be something they can't get instantly.

The 254's haven't caused problems though. They've had none returned yet.

Having said that, I'll take your advice and check everything :)

Delivery in 3-4 weeks.. :D

I know I'm late, just catching up after attending the KIOTI dealer meeting in NC but thought I'd take a stab at answering the question about semi shuttle. "Semi-shuttle" is commonly used to describe a type of transmission where the reverse is on the same lever as the high/low range and typically only works as a shuttle going from either High or Low, in some cases, like on some L series Kubotas, only the low range is in line with and has a synchro. The term shuttle shift used on compact tractors usually describes a separate forward reverse lever that allows going from Forward to reverse without changing the gear or range levers. Normally on compact tractors this requires use of the clutch. a power shuttle or power reverser will usually not require the use of the clutch. Kioti had a DS4510 with a hydraulic shuttle at the meeting that looked like it would be out fairly soon... but I think many buyers will push the clutch for the cost difference...

Reversing without clutching sounds painful.

Nick,
Congratulations on the tractor purchase! I'm sure you are excited to receive it. The dealer sounds good. Best of luck with the delivery.

I've just had a chat with the dealer...

Engine oil, hydraulic oil and Diesel they change, but not the axle or gearbox oil...

The Engine oil is swapped to an oil that is more suitable for this colder climate. :)

Is the change of these lubricants dependant upon a quality check once I get the tractor, or do you reckon I should do it as a matter of course?

Time to start designing a grapple :)

When you remove the caps and see what's clinging to the dipstick, I think that question will answer itself. That's something I'd do in front of the dealer.
