Buying a new L5740 HSTC?

   / Buying a new L5740 HSTC? #31
We have a Massey Ferguson 375 with cast centers and loaded tires that worked really well without anything on the 3PH, but everything else needs counter balance and yeah I have skinned a tree or two up.

I will probably try it for a while and add weights later on if needed; thanks for the feedback.

You are more than welcome

TripleR - The curl on my L5740 HSTC took some getting used to when I upgraded from a L3710 open platform. When I've got stuck and need to push myself out, I would curl the bucket on the 3710 all the way down, lower the loader until I had the front lifted about right, and curl up to walk it back. The 5740 doesn't have enough oomph when the bucket is curled completely down. I can raise the front wheels out of the hole they are in, but it doesn't have enough hydraulic power with the linkage that far extended to push me back. I need to remember not to curl the bucket completely so the linkage has more mechanical advantage. This may be the weakness in the bucket curl the other person had mentioned.

TripleR - I haven't noticed any weakness with my loader in moving loads of gravel or topsoil. i have not had it stuck yet that i have needed to use the loader to push myself out so i cannot comment on that. My tractor has been great so far, i have had it since mid March and i have just under 70 hours on it now. If a new tractor allows you to be comfortable and spend more time in it and you can afford it, i can't think of any reason not to get one. Good luck with the decision and can't wait to see the pictures.

That sounds like the issue; both bucktaker and I had/have older model Massey Ferguson tractors with non QA buckets that had much stronger dump/curl cycles. I have used the FEL on my L5030 to get me out of mud, but had not tried it on flat dry land. When I did, I found it was not as strong.

I have been very happy with my L5030 which has the 853 loader and have moved more dump truck loads of rock than I can count in addition to tons upon tons of mud and dirt; all dirt/mud dug out, nothing loose. Like you I have been very happy with this size tractor. We have had/have bigger tractors, but find this one a great all around tractor and I spend much more time in it than our 8540.

My wife and I have pretty much come to the same conclusion and have bought the tractor which should be here sometime next week as the TnT and some other things had to be ordered. I have a list of projects in addition to regular maintenance that will outlive me and my kids and grandkids will need something to keep using once I am gone or grounded.

I am the kind of person who believes it when I see it, so I will believe it when it shows up and if it does, I'll post pictures.

And as JOHNTHOMAS says, "This is my last tractor...:laughing:

Thanks, it shouldn't be long, just waiting on the bucket and I have to take the hooks up and show them where to put them on. I have a picture somewhere of Beppington's I think I will use.

Fortunately, it is so dry nothing much needs to be done and I am afraid of messing up my trade in, so I am leaving it in the barn.
