Buying local - How much is it worth?

I would go local..
The pain of cost passes quickly, but the anguish of poor service endures..
It is worth a bundle to have the local guy in your camp.
You have no idea how he/she may help you.....
imho

Over $400 on a new tractor purchase....... buy locally.

I agree $ 400.00 and a few more $ buy local. Now If It's a few thousands then It's a no brain-er, after all if it is a new tractor just like a new car, factory dealers have to do the repairs. Now they most likely charge for pickup and delivery, but thats the norm.

Rox:

How far out of state are you talking about? Connecticut is small compared to Colorado, so distance is relative when you're talking out of state here.

For me it makes no sense to go out of state due to the potential hassles; but if you're just talking a quick hop over the line into NY or Massachusetts, then it may be worthwhile.

However; you have been given plenty of good reasons to buy local that I agree with.

Pretty much agree with everyone for the reasons mentioned. I have more than recouped any additional up front cost on other equipment, on sites service/repair/parts delivery etc.

This may not be true for everyone, but it has been for me.

BUT..

at what point does it flip over.

I'm looking at 2k in savings and 1700 in taxes.

Even if I ultimately have to pay the taxes.. that's a lot on a 32k purchase.

I really LIKE the local guy.. but at 2k.. that's love

Ummm......... yeah, $3,700 is REAL money. Heck, I'd go elsewhere over the $1,700 in taxes alone.

There are a limited number of Kubota dealers in CT. Is the local dealer where you will have service done? If so that $400 may buy a lot of good will with that dealer.

I agree with everybody else, but with a different spin. A tractor, unlike an automobile, goes in 'strange' places and does 'strange' things. Operated by a novice, they get even 'stranger'. It is gonna need service/repair, and there isn't a "tractor garage" on every corner. Your dealer will become your New Best Friend if you buy from him, and he may even pick up the machine for free when it needs work. To me, that alone is worth $400.

I agree local dealer...my experience.....my dealer has picked my tractor up THREE TIMES AT NO EXPENSE to repair a problem that I have had,no small feat about 70 miles round-trip each time.Talked on the phone with the parts guy, mechanic and the owner him-self.Tractor had 400 hours and three years old.
