Best logic I've heard so far!!!

"Honey, we need a bigger tractor, I just cant pull the boat out with that small little BX......"

**** YEAH!!!

I think that is the solution mswlogo is waiting to hear...?

just kiddin btw msw...

Probably. But I have the largest tractor I can fit in the boat house and for the other jobs it's really the prefect size.

Sorry to disagree but the weight on the back is not 'good.' In fact I think its pretty obvious from the pics and the bend in the bucket that its very bad. especially when you are facing down hill like you are in the pics. I've got a tractor bigger than yours, with a backhoe, and it loses rear wheel traction when its just pushing into a pile of dirt with an empty bucket. You are trying to reverse uphill with the weight of a boat on your bucket! The back wheels are spinning because they have no weight on them. (By the look of it they are not even digging in.) The fronts are spinning because they are too small for sand. You have to turn it around. I don't care if you build a concrete slab under the tractor, you are not going to pull the boat out like this. Letting air out of the tyres won't help either.

Turn the tractor around. Get some weight on the back wheels. Back it in a bit further to break the trailer out of its hole if necessary . Then come out as fast as possible. (At an angle if necessary). If that still doesn't work, THEN you can resort to all those other creative suggestions.

I'm outa here now. Said my bit. Good luck.

Point taken. I appreciate your persistence in explaining. But I think you are reading too much into a static photo AFTER I filled the holes it dug on all 4 wheels so I could get an empty trailer out.

I don't want to attach it to rear (it's not free, I'd have to buy a hitch). I'll be REMOVING a lot of weight which I think is needed. Front wheels then will have no traction and are needed. I'll also have to back it quite a bit further in and there are vents etc. down there and I don't want to start sucking in water. So yes it may put more traction on big wheels but will cause other issues if I turn it around.

Ok I did not read every reply so I don't know if this has been said or not.

put someone in the boat and start it and use it's motor to help put it out

Hmmm, someones thinking, really interesting idea but I care way more about my boat than the tractor and that is a little risky to boat. I have to think about that. It only needs that first 2 feet of inertia. Water pickup on boat is about half way up the boat, if it runs dry it will cook itself pretty quick. Be nervous with my wife doing tractor or the boat (in this situation). She normally drives the boat fine and won't touch the tractor.

I don't know if the boat is still out there, but here's my take on it:

1: If you really want to use the fel to pull out, find a big rock to carry with the backhoe. You do have some kind of grapple on it, or is it just my eyes seeing things that are not there? Then fill fel with stones around the hitch. You will benefit from adding weight.

2: I guess this is my take on it, but I haven't been in your shoes, so what do I know...

Turn tractor. Keep backhoe on. Find a big rock to put in the Fel. And I mean as heavy as it can lift. Use wire or chain and attatch at the very bottom of the backhoe, deep down below any cylinders.

Weight is the key. Or at least that is what I'm thinking from sitting here looking at your pictures.

It might also very well be that the title of this tread is the truth about this.

Nice place, boat and tractor! I hope you get to use all of them.

Keep in mind weight is always good on HARD surface, but on sand it gets a little complicated. Because you sink more into it. Probably don't need much more weight on the FEL end. But it will probably help more than hurt on the BH end.

Powerloading a boat is not a good idea. You will most likely end up damaging the boat. Remember, a trailier is meant to be pulled not pushed. Also, the water intakes will most likely draw up sand which can cause issues with your cooling system and judging by the pictures it is too shallow for this.

One idea may be to build a cradle with a skid on it to support the trailer tongue. They you can use a chain from more solid ground to pull the boat and trailer up.

The snow mobile tread issue will not work as they will most likely bunch up under this type fo stress.

Looking at your place and boat makes me miss mine.

I wasn't going to comment again, but...

OK, you want to do this way, but if it was me I would at least try just once turning the tractor around to find out if its up to it. Surely there's a place on the back of the tractor to screw a tow ball. You are concerned about weight but the weight of the boat might compensate for the loss of the weight of the backhoe. Or maybe you can leave the backhoe on anyway. Can you swing it sideways and find somewhere to screw your hitch. It doesnt have to be dead centre. And if you back it in as I suggest you should be able to go in a fair way without getting anything other than the tyres wet.

I said earlier that it wouldnt help reducing tyre pressure in this situation (because you've already got fat tyres). I'll correct that by saying that reducing pressure in the BOAT tyres will help greatly. My boat tyres are as 'flat' as possible because, after retrieving the boat, I also have to tow it up a steep sandy track.

(Its worth pointing out that the only thing you are really trying to overcome in this whole excercise is that little hole that the trailer tyres are sitting in. Some big old extra wide tyres on the boat trailer will really make a difference.)

One last thing. If you insist on doing it your way you have to get the weight off the bucket (to give those back wheels a chance to work). To do this you need to be able to put the loader in 'float' position without your hitch etc dragging in the sand. Some rollers or fat wheels under the hitch might do it.
