I'm about ready to buy my first tractor, and I'm looking at used BX22s.

-Are there any known issues with the BX22? I've spent a little time searching the forums, but most of the comments I found deal with the BX23/24.

-Any tips on what I should be looking for when I inspect one?

-How difficult is it to find compatible attachments (mower, rear bagger, etc)

I looked at new ones, but for the use I have planned for it, I just can't justify the cost. (Landscape a couple acres, maybe mowing and snow removal).

Thanks in advance for your input!

Try searching again but for the specific model. Like "BX 2200" if that is it. There are many, many posts about issues and solutions.

Welcome aboard. Don't own a BX22 but from what I can recall reading here and elsewhere, no real issues with them. I do recall the three point hitch is limited category 1 vs the newer BX's being full cat 1. I believe the only difference is how high the 3PH raises; doesn't come up as far on the BX22/23 IIRC. Also, I think the loader valve stays on the FEL when you take it off. Could be an issue if you wanted to add another front implement that uses hydraulics, like a blade or snowblower. On newer BXs, the valve stays on the tractor and can be used for other implements.

I'm sure more members with actual BX22 experience will chime in soon.

I bought a new BX2200 in 2003 and it is still going strong; sold it to my son in law in 2008 when I was looking at a B Series, but I got a BX2660 instead.

The light switches are subject to water damage on the original units, I had mine replaced and it lives outside now with no issues. The breather bracket is prone to failure, but can be easily fixed. I had no problems with the limited Cat 1 hitch and use the same implements on my 2660 as on my BX2200. I believe there is an upgraded seat available as the original tilted forward, we never got one.

Overall, it is a really good little tractor with a lot of metal.

I have had a BX22 since new with about 650 hours now. The only problem I have had is a fuel tank leak. Took it to the dealer under warrantee and they did the fuel gauge leak fix, but that wasn't the problem. I discovered fuel fitting leaks on the bottom of the tank and fixed them myself. I know the air cleaner bracket was famous for breaking but I have not had that problem. If you mow in dry dusty conditions you must keep the radiator clean or you will have overheating problems. I mow about 3 acres, blow snow in the winter (more to blow today, sure wish I had a cab!), clean around the horse barn, have dug a couple hundred feet of french drains, ditched for power and water lines, dug footings for my shop and garage, dug around 3 sides of a house for drain tile that was inaccessible to a larger tractor, landscaped, tilled gardens, dug post holes, and the list goes on. Good little unit.
