I think the amperage is the key, since they have ballasts they might not put off much heat at all. The replacement bulbs are what usually cause the overheating.

correct. They use less watts. The bulbs have use 100% gas Xenon. So far based on the night pix, they are worth 2X that. Even the wife thinks I am nuts!

Ballasts should stay ice cold. The plastic on the BX is a lot thicker then my car. I can look up the temps tomorrow at work (of the pastics).

So "flagged" reading..

Which kit did you install. They all looked to be about $300 each. I'd like to use them on my FJR1300 and not the BX. They'd just brighten up the back of my bucket and bumper.

How the HID bulbs fit in the holes of the previous bulbs? Did you simply replace the bulbs or did you modify the holes to make them fit in? If you simply replaced the bulbs then which car model kit did you use? Thanks (I never changed those bulbs so I don't know if there is a standard or not.)

I installed the H4 kit on my Kubota BX22 as I posted above. Now it was cheap and that is what I wanted.

If I was going to install a kit on my bike, I would use a better kit like the Philips, HELLA. . The problem is the Kelvin ratings. The best is 4,300K. As you go up you lose output lumens but the color of the light changes. So like a 6000K would have a little purple tint to it but still have over 2X that of halogen, 8000K is very blue, 10K is like worthless and like a blue like and so on.

So far when comparing this kit to Philips, the ballast “look” the same but Philips is the best you can get. You can’t buy a Philips ballast for less then $130 each and you need two. The bulbs on the Philips look thicker and have a larger OD on the wire lead. The Philips are rebased bulbs from Germany, which these are not. Also the kit I put on my Kubota BX does not have a relay, while Philips does.

Not being disrespectful here but if you know some info on aftermarket HID kits, most have WAY to much glare and that is what I was banking on. I want glare for this application since it is not for road use.

Also HID kits are not legal for road use unless they where OEM on your auto.

I have so night shots on the yard last night…Unreal!

It will be cool using the BX now in the winter and at night…

( Different plastics react to heat differently. The lights on your car might have Lexan lens and the Kubota might be a polycarbonate lens. The Lexan is a lot tougher in all ways. thanks for the information. )

Lexan is 275 F (Heat distortion temperature (HDT)
Lexan is polycarbonate per say
Polycarbonate (PC) has a 260 F (Heat distortion temperature (HDT).

Based on thermal, the two are close. I do not care about impact, PSI, stress, strain, etc etc.

I'm sorry... I didn't understand that H4 was "The model". As I understand it now H1, H3 or H7 woudn't fit. It must be H4. There are so many models available. I found a chart showing bulb differences.
