I love this forum. I have been reading for the past few days and y'all helped me make a valuable choice. I had been dealing for years with Cub Cadet but I fell in love with the BX2200 when I saw it. I had almost bought the BX2200 when I saw on this forum that I couldn't put a BH on it. My local Kubota dealer lost a sell because he was taking too long to find a BX22. I drove to Abingdon, VA today and bought a BX22 with a 60'' belly mower. I also bought a tandem trailer to get it home, and to make some cash if needed. I bought an old farmhouse with 4.5 acres. The land is flat and holds water. I have alot of ditches I want to dig and this machine will make it fun instead of work. I am looking at $18,000 including the trailer and taxes. From what I have seen on this forum I got a good price. The dealer started at $14,990 on the BX22 and wouldn't budge, selling like hotcakes because of the 0% financing. I did get a set of blades from him. I pick it up tomorrow and may just take vacation the rest of the week. hehe /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Now that sounds like a good idea!!! Vacation for the rest of the week. If I could get some weather, I might consider the same thing, but it is snowing here in NY again /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Now that wouldn't be bad if we had gotten the 1 foot they were originally predicting, cuz then I could go use my new FEL to move it!! But we only got about 3 inches and it pretty much melted on my driveway so it didn't leave me anything to play in /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh well enjoy the new unit and drive safely getting her home. I too may have to buy a new trailer, as mine is a little too short with FEL and Grass Catcher on.

I've been looking for a trailer for mine...what kind did you get? Could you post a picture if you have time?

Best of luck on the new machine!

I will post a pic when I get it home and if I remember too. I may be too hyped up and silly to remember. Now that I live in the boonies my dial up connection is 28.8 so it may take awhile to upload LOL. But I wouldn't trade internet speed for the lovely country I live in now. F.Y.I to anyone buying. Kubota is taking so many applications it may take 3 to 5 hours for the dealer to get the application back. This is why I couldn't pick it up today /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The trailer is made by Gator Made Inc. Dual axle utility, 6 1/2' by 16'. The 60'' mmm just fits, but if I tie the chute up it fits better. Here is a link Gator made homepage I didn't have time to get a pic, didn't even have time to try out my Bota, had to unload it and go to work. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hehe, probably no one reading this but me but this is fun. The BX22 looked small around all the other tractors in the lot, but when I got it home and ran around the field it seemed huge to me. BTW when backing off trailer using a bank(cause I havent bought ramps yet) the backhoe may get in the way. LOL my first "OH ^%$*" and hadn't even got it off the trailer yet. Next purchase, RAMPS.

Just wanted to let you know someone else is reading so you aren't just talking to yourself! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have the 2200 without the hoe but used a bank as well when unloading. It caused some very tense moments because there was a foot or more of snow on the bank which caused some tipping action and I was (am) a total rookie. I somehow managed without rolling it but it's not something I'm looking forward to doing again! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hey! We're reading!

How did you tie it down to the trailer? When the dealer delivered mine he chained the rear through the bottom of the backhoe by the lower pivot (there's a steel loop there). He also chained the front to the BX push bar which scratched it up a lot. Wish there was a better way to do the front......

Gregg, Hi.......

About tie downs. Here's what I did and it works for me, on my BX22.

Front, I marked the center point of the front grill at the bottom where the 4 bolts are that hold the grill on. Then drilled a pilot hole through both the grill and tractor frame. Then I took the grill off. I used a hole saw to drill a 1" hole through the grill and also through the tractor frame. This hole, when grill is mounted is used for bolting a 1" eye bolt through the grill and frame when grill is mounted. At times the grill has to come off for certain repairs, I used "never sieze" on the threads of the eye bolt. The eye bolt does not interfere with the mower mount. or front end loader. It also comes in handy for pulling out the BX if it ever gets stuck. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Now, there has been alot of good posts on here about 2 point tie downs instead of 1, which I agree with. So, while I had the grill off, I drilled, (7/8 hole saw) 2 holes at the bottom of the grill where the radius is, 1 on each side. This is where I put the shackles to hook the chains to to bind it down. Works great. By useing the holes in the grill for shackles, the angle of the chains clear the front end loader also.

Ofcourse after done I need to paint everything silver to match.

Hey..I hate to do this, but I just got company and have to get off of here, so I'll post the back-end later. .George /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I cheated didn't do any drilling just went to TSC and picked up two eye bolts 2000lbs or 3000lbs at work right now can't remember /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif cut the bolts shorter to fit the space and now two tie downs
tie downs

at the back just added a shackle to the hitch plate sorry no pick of that /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

cheers
Tony

Ahhh...I like that! Makes it much simpler to tie down.

Hi Gregg.........

Well company left. Now the back end of BX for tie downs. Yes, as Tony (super7) said I too put a shackle through the fixed draw bar. The chain comes from one side of trailer, through shackle, to other side of trailer, then tightened down with binder. Works great with or without hoe on.

I bought the grade70 chain and hooks (5/16) at TSC. They cut it to the length I wanted. I bought the ratchet binders (3) from Baileys. The shackles I got from....well I had them.

The way Tony did his front will work good also, but like he said get good ones. Hope this helps ya and have fun, be safe.

Tony, like your pics and house, but not the goop mud you need to spread. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif George

OK, now you got me thinking about some more questions to ask...

About the chain...what does grade 70 mean? I saw my dealer had "grade 70" chains in 20' lengths with hook ends for $75 each. Is that a good price, or should I make them up?

And about the binders...what are they? I have an idea...is there a preference to makes, sizes, features? I don't have a TSC or similar around here, so I'd have to source them at a hardware store or something. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've also seen some pictures where the FEL is placed in the front of the trailer on the frame heading for the tongue of the trailer...which would at first hint that you could get away with a smaller trailer, but is that realy a good practice? I'm thinking that I'm not wild about it as I type this.

Thanks

Tie down, what do you mean by tie down,? The tractor is heavy it isnt gonna float away. LOL Don't be alarmed I tied it down. We put the FEL down, locked the brakes, and tied it through that same steel loop Nitronuts dealer used. This did get scratched up which I didn't like. I had thought of putting an old towel around the chain but I had been at the dealers for 5 hours so I got on the road. We didn't tie the front down. I drove 60 miles with no problem. I did buy some straps for the front when I decide to trailer it again. I like some of the ideas I have seen. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Nitro,

Here is a link to Harbor Freight.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/headsearch.taf?function=Search

Just put binder in the search field. By the way they ship for free with order over $50.00.

I just ordered the 5400lb ratcheting units($19.99) for trailering my BX1800. They arrived a couple of days ago and look as good as the ones I saw at TSC for $39.99. I believe the grade 70 chain is also rated for 5400lbs, and is 3/8". I also intend to use a shackle through my rear tow bar.

The trucker that delivered mine showed me a clevis hook with a triagle attachment that he used to hook onto the front plate that the brush guard mounts too. This looked like a real good idea, so I am going to see if I can find them.

Hope this helps.

I use two 3/8x16' chains with ratchet binders on my bx-22. to stop scratching the front I put chain thru a piece of old fire hose works great. this post has chains and binders. northerntool

You gotta be kidding!

They're only $20?

The hardware store has those for $40 each.

I need to open a hardware store.....

Great ideas here guys...I thought this was going to be one of those posts where you never really get the answer you were looking for....I was wrong...thanks!

...and I scrolled down on the Northern site and saw the price difference on the chain; half of what I would have paid at the dealer. It really pays to ask questions here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chain comes in different grades, 3,4,7,8,10. Grade has to do with alot of things. Grade 7 or 70 is transport chain, it is what the truckers are to use on the road to tie down there loads. Grade 8 and 10 are lift grade chain used for over head lifting and are stronger than grades 3,4,7. Grade 3 is everyday use for rail chain. Grade 4 is high strengh and was used for transport chain till grade 7 came out and now is used (its stronger than grade 4).

Hope this helps
