Thanks for catching that Bill, I was looking at the old BX23 specs.

I am still not completely sold on the smaller tractor, but my spouse is.<snipped>

Doesn't that pretty much end this conversation right there? :)

She is just letting me thrash around: I saw the look in her eye when she sat on the BX24 and moved the backhoe around. All was lost right then. So, now it is just a matter of timing: we either buy it now or buy it when the weather is a little cooler and we can spend more time on the tractor.

With the loader information, the BX is the clear choice for me now too!

I own a BX22 and 35 acres. I also have an old Case 830 for the big work but MUCH prefer the seat time on the Kubota. I think the BX would be perfect for you. Something I have not seen mentioned is the ease of changing attachments. Everything on and off in 5 minutes or less. I mow about 4 acres with a 60" midmount and enjoy every minute of it.

I'm narrowing my search down to these two machines as well.

I agrree that the new bx 24 is nicer in the ergo book as well.

A couple things that i like better about the Massey are:

1) Larger engie that runs at lower rpm.

2) Higher lift capacity on the rear end.

3) 3 point hitch stays on the tractor when the backhoe is mounted. (This is important to me as I will be using it for rough cutting the pasture)

Bx has it's own advantages for it as well such as:

1) Increased front loader specs.

2) Newer design with slanted loader arms and backhoe arms (increases visibilty).

3) Overall a nicer ergo machine. This is also important as you spend a fair amount of time in the driver seat.

I too was looking at a larger machine, but feel the subcut will do everyting I need at the cost I can justify. I have 6 acres.

Both the MF GC2310 and the BX24 are good choices. There isn't any one specification that sways me one way or another, it is more the whole package and the ergonomics, plus my spouse's crush on the Kubota. She likes OB1Kubota :) for the name, unless there is a copyright on that one!

We will wait and see if there are any changes July 1 in options to save some cash, but we are ready to buy.

Decisions decisions :D

When I was shopp'n, one of the dealers I visited carries both MF and Kubota so I got to do extensive checking out of each side by side. Both machines have their positives and negatives and I ended up going with the machine I felt fit me the best. Haven't regretted going orange one bit.

A few times a week I pass on older gentleman that just purchased himself a GC2310 and I can tell he's very happy with his machine also. I know when he's going to mow cause I see his FEL and BH dismounted in under one of his barns overhangs. His lawn looks nice too.
It's the only GC I see when I'm out and about compared to quite a few BX's.

You can't go wrong with either but I wouldn't concern myself with the specs as much as I would with how it fits. As far as specs go they're close enough to wash each other out but their fit is different.

Good luck

I would not worry about adequate power with the BX24. The BX is obviously a smaller machine than the 2615 but I think size rather than power would be the real difference. I have a Kioti CK20 TLB that has less horsepower but bigger numbers generally than the BX24 so I would not worry about the horsepower.

The BX shines as a mower so I cannot see why you would sell the BX in order to buy a mowing machine later. I agree that mowing 7 acres with a sixty inch mower might get old but you'd probably need to move up to 30hp to comfortably pull a 72 inch mower. You might even be able to pull a 8 or 10 foot gang of reel mowers with the BX24 if it is really almost lawn like. It depends on the land.

I looked at the BX23 before buying my tractor. Nothing bad you can say about the BX series. Nice tractors but be sure the small frame size and weight will be adequate for your jobs. Digging bowling ball size rocks and doing limited home landscaping would be no sweat for a BX24. If you are routinely digging out bigger stumps or needing to dig deeper then you'll be frustrated. Likewise, using ground engaging tools like a box blade or plow would be an issue with the BX because of its light weight but not because of power.

MAN, I got all the way down to the last half of the last paragraph of your missive, thinking you were being serious. You really had me going. Cheers! to you sir, for the comedy/satire regarding the BX's abilities with ground engaging tools, et al. :D

This is harder than i thought ... well, the search continues and trying to sort out if the BX24 is big enough. If the issue is TIME, I can live with that. It takes me several full 8 hour days to weed whack my property now. So, the difference between 4 hours or 12 hours of mowing is a non issue in comparison to what I do now. But, if the BX24 is not enough tractor, then I need to convince the wife she can live without the backhoe for now.

Thanks for the additional thoughts.....
