Kubota BX25
For My BX25
Folks I am about to be launched into another area of tractoring that I
am not familar with, that being the 3 Point Hitch Assembly. (BX2506)
I took all parts out of the box and began to familarize myself w/ its
contents. It seems pretty straight forward EXCEPT, I am puzzled w/
Part #3 in the instructions, the Lower Link Pin. It is maybe 12" or so long
and maybe 3/4" wide and its exterior is smooth, end to end.

What keeps it from falling out? Falling out as in sliding from left to right
or vice versa. Or will it all become clear when I pull the BH off for the first
time and dive in tomorrow?

Additionally has anyone done anything trick or cool to there BX25's 3pt
hitch assembly to make it better or easier to deal with? All comments are
as always VERY appreciated... Thank YOU!

The following is based on the assumption that it is like the BX 24. There are two round pieces that slide on that rod. They have flats that index them. There are holes that the rod can slide through to get it in place. Once you slide the two round pieces to the outside and index them the previous holes don't line up, thus keeping it from falling out. Then there is a piece that slips over the rod to keep the indexed round pieces in place.

Second thought - it will become obvious when you actually do it.

Take Care,

You gotta weld it in place!!! Grind it when you want to remove it!!!

Or just do what Doug said, it will be way easier!:laughing:

In the kit you'll find two ~1" thick Link Pin Collets. I don't know if that's what Kubota calls 'em on the instructions, but that's their function. They are round with a flat section machined into the circumference. These fit into the subframe where the Lower Link Pin is installed.

When get the BH off, pull up a 5gal bucket to install the 3pt hitch. Will make life easier on old, tired backs! Install the collets onto the Lower Link Pin and then move them to one end of it. Slide the Link Pin through the hole in the subframe, then slide a collet to the subframe, and by spinning it you'll eventually marry up the flat to the subframe and it will slide right into the subframe. Repeat the process on the other side and your Lower Link Pin is installed.

Yes, you have to install them as a unit... If you put the collets in place, there's not enough clearance to get the Lower Link Pin through the holes due to its length.

Friendly suggestion, once you've got it all installed, don't take it apart again to get it on and off the tractor. By disconnecting just a few pieces, you can remove the whole 3pt hitch as a unit and reinstall it as a unit. I'll grab my directions tonight so I can use the nomenclature that is on them and walk you through the removal process.

I've swapped 3pt implements and BH often enough that from start to finish, it's only about a 5-10 minute job to switch 'em out. Luck on the install!

I am sorta following...and YES I so want to be able to pull the whole
shootin' match on and off as a unit. Can I forgo the cotter pins and use
Hairpins everywhere? Wait...if I want to pull it on and off as a whole I
better look at it first assembled. It is raining here, I just finished a job
and not wanting to go get all wet...

Hey Artisan,

Just do it  Once you've put it on it will seem simple.

About the cotter pins: my 3PH uses hair pins and split rings. I'm converting to rings everywhere.

There's a plate that hangs on the lower bar. It keeps the arms separated and also keeps those big bushings on the ends of the bar in place in the tractor frame. That plate is held on by a little "spud" that came with a hairpin. Said pin and spud came loose somehow. Fortunately the plate stayed in place long enough for me to notice - or real hilarity could have ensued.

Long way of saying I don't trust hairpins in that application. Converted to a ring.

This is the most frustrating and poorly engineered part of the BX25. I fought those cotter keys and the turnbuckles until I bought a QH. That really speeded up implement changes and no more groveling in the dirt and mud (Pacific NW normal). I change back and forth on the BH and 3PT a lot, probaly put more hours on the BH than any other implement. The lower rod assenbly, the plate and the turnbuckles are a PITA. I am toying with some ideas on that. Maybe the rod needs to be a threaded unit to expand and contract into the bushings by hand with a lock nut. Replace the turnbuckles with threaded, adjustable rods/flat bars also.

What have others done to simplify this hookup?
