BTW - just to make sure I'm clear ... what are peoples thoughts on using a tandem 6X12 open trailer (with low sides and lowered axles) ... providing I back the tractor on. BH would hang over the A frame ... loader would rest on back gate. Trailer would have surge brakes on two axles. Am I heading into danger with this idea? Its my last attempt at making a 6X12 work... with a BX25 with 60" MMM.

Thanks all for your input ... from what I've learned I see that it might be beneficial to figure out a trailer design that leaves room for me to back the BX25 on to the trailer leaving the backhoe boom hanging over the A frame and not the back end of the trailer. As an experiment I think I will throw it on a uhaul 6X12 tandem open trailer and see how that handles ... also see where I would need to make openings (for the BH) on my (front) "hi-side" design. Possibly look into slide out or carry on ramps instead of the typical landscape design ... so the FEL is resting on something a little more solid. If all else fails ... I will buy a 16' trailer and trade in the driveway! :)

Just make sure your hood is latched well, or tie it down if you tow it backwards on the trailer. If the wind gets under it...Well, you know what can happen there.

Never even thought of that ... cheers!

We have a 14' tandem axle trailer (7000lb gvw) that we bought for our BX2200. The trailer is over kill for hauling the little BX, but I built 4' sides and with the 5' ramp gate, the trailer works out great for getting bark mulch in bulk, rock, black dirt, ect. Just have it loaded into the trailer and use the FEL on the BX to unload it.

90% of the time the little 14' trailer does the job, but for the times when it is too small we also have a 25' gooseneck (14,000lb gvw) to handle the bigger stuff. Also use it to haul the L3600 around.

I like the backwards loading idea. These BX's are not really all that heavy so it really is just a matter of getting them to fit and balance properly on the trailer. The other thought for balance is to simply load something heavy into the FEL as much as needed to counterbalance the BH regardless of which orientation on the trailer. Water jugs, diesel, cement etc could all be used.

In the end, it is just weight; position it properly, secure it firmly and you will have no problems.

Some people who balk at hauling a tractor of a certain weight think nothing of hauling something else of equal weight.

Just make sure you can get a good weight balance. You want the tongue kinda heavy to reduce sway. I use a 20' trailer and can't imagine shorter. With FEL and Bush Hog it fits OK.
