when you sharpen a chain saw with a round file, you end up with a burr on the top of the cutting tooth that stands proud of the tooth face.

Should I knock that off with a flat file, or just leave it?

I use a fine hard stone to knock the burrs off. If you do not stone the burrs off. The first time burrs hits a piece of wood it will break off. Leaving the cutting edge dull.
