Chains or Straps?

I chain & binder my tractor down in front and back and use a strap down the center where the gear shift is. This only take about 5-10 min and I never have to worry about the tractor moving on me. Better to be save than sorry!!!

A station wagon with a preg mother is a harder target to hit than a bus full of nuns.

Now we are after pregnant mothers? :D I remember a recent thread where you said it was a bus load of orphans. Oh yes, bus full of orphans and nuns when the tractor trumpet broke. That's funny. :D

That's ok, flame suit still on. :D:D

Classic worst possible scenerio. I almost used the busload of nuns and orphans again.. but decided to give them a rest this time. Same analogy though... There's always time for safety.. cause ya can't un-kill somebody...

I caught so much flak the last time I used that one i decided to let them sit this one out... same situation though.. .. it don't matter who your tractor lands on and kills because it wasn't strapped down.. might be the bus load of nuns.. the pregnant mother in a station wagon.. or the kid riding his bike down the bike lane / side walk next to you when someone else runs into you and knocks your tractor off. Could be 'Any Q Person' walking beside the road, on the side walk, men at work .. etc.

The accident causing the upset might not be preventable.. however having the tractor secured sure takes a few variable out of the situation.. and shows some due dillignece ..or at least that reasonable means were taken to secure the load...

Ah come on use the Nuns and orphans . After riding in a bus with a bunch of Nuns I bet they need a break and some excitement.

It really does not matter who or what you hit dead is still dead and if it's because you didn't take a min to tie down you will not have much sleep for a long time. I know last year 2 teenagers hit me and my parked truck on the side of the road they were both killed and I still see them in my sleep. I was legally parked minding my own business.

Hmmm, There is no orphanage in the area, No Nuns as the area is Baptist, everyone on my street is to old to get pregnant, most to old to drive. Old Mr. Stubblefield does drive his scooter around, but never leaves the grass.

How about Hillary's campaign bus? Wouldn't that be a tragedy?

Wow - I step away for a day and the thread goes awry!

Back to topic, thanks for all the feedback! I, like most of you, strap 4 corners and usually across any attachment I may have on (bush hog for example). I currently use chains and will most likely stick with them but with the added addition of some firehose or similar. Very much like that idea as I won't have to continue putting non-tree inflicted scratches on it. ;)

Thanks again for the thoughts and the pics! Love pics!

A tragedy.. is't that a kind of classic play? ;)

You might want to check your state regulations, some states require FOUR CHAINS on tractors (assuming the big stuff). Personally I use chains on my farm tractors 5000 lb. - 8000 lb. For the Mule & garden tractors, straps are ok, although on the Mule I do use a loose "saftey hook" since I have brooken one strap in the past. As for the time it takes, it takes me 1 1/2 hr to load & and strap a 16' trailer load of garden tractors (or unload). Two dozen straps or more!
