Chainsaw use - alone

I tried that, my wife kicked me out of the kitchen & laundry room.
Not allowed to make beds either.

If you keep doing it poorly, eventually they'll just do it themselves.

I've been with my wife for almost 40 years. Once, she mowed the lawn. My back was out, and I was down for the count. I really appreciated it. I know she'd do it if I needed her to. And I do help with other chores if she asks. I cook about half of the meals these days. I did 5 of 7 for three years a while back. Helps I'm a good cook. I always help clean up after dinner, put the food away, help with dishes, etc... that way we get done faster and can go for a longer walk after dinner. It's kind of evolved to 'she has her stuff and I have mine' that we are responsible for, but both of us can and will do the other's stuff if needed. Works for us. :thumbsup:

It looks like the ‘alone’s’ Are the majority, to wit i’ll add My endorsement to that camp.
In years past an occasional city friend would offer to help in the woodlot in return for a few splits of fireplace wood. That came to a screeching halt as already been stated, inexperienced helpers are worse than no helpers. It is appalling the inapt skill sets possessed by most younger people in today’s society.

I don't mind someone who doesn't know. We all had to learn ourselves. It's when they don't know, think they do and don't listen that there's a problem. We had a neighbor like that. Nice guy but all his equipment was mistreated and usually broken. I've had to walk away when he was using a saw because he was so bad at it. No safety gear, no concept of how to use a saw and not much willingness to learn. Fortunately he moved before he got seriously hurt.

I have another neighbor who does tree work. He's a good guy, is very fit and has excellent reflxes. He depends on those reflexes to get him out of trouble more than normal people do. I'll work with him but only on my terms. If I let him lead he will do something risky that he can save himself from but I may not be able to.

I do nearly all of my work by myself. When I am working by myself I can take my time, think things out and plan escape routes before cutting. My wife knows where I am and if the saw's quiet for a long time and it's not too far a walk she'll come check on me. When I'm at a far end of the property I should carry a radio but getting her to carry one too might be tougher.

I can remember when I was a kid I would help my grandfather cut wood with a buzz saw powered by a flat pto belt on his tractor. Today you would be arrested for letting a kid do that but it was one of my best memories.

Done that for several years. Same situation but in my 20s when my farm neighbors and I would cut our Winter's supply of wood together. My job was to throw the pieces on to the wagon or on a pile as they were being cut. To me, working around that buzz saw was more dangerous than any chainsaw has ever been.

No guarding the flat belt drive and no guard around the saw blade. How did we ever survive? Happy those days are long gone and I would never go back to an operation such as that.

At the end of the day, there are not many jobs that my lady friend and I can do together, but wood is one of them. She doesn't cut but having someone get stuff, drive the Gator, pick up wood and branches, split and pile wood, is a HUGE blessing. And rather satisfying for both of us. Also, come to think about it, I don't think such a session EVER ended in ugly words exchanged!

I always cut alone. But. My wife knows where I am on the property and will check on me via phone every 20 minutes or so. Have a bluetooth headset to listen to music and get calls when needed. 90% of the trees I cut are already down.

Wife died 11 years ago. Cut alone all the time. Few neighbors around within ear shot. What's an old guy to do? Lots of tractor and outdoor stuff is dangerous. At 86 YO, 5'4" ...142 lbs I'm still at it. Just lucky I guess, but much slower now with more aches and a sore knee. I do wear a helmet though... sometimes remember to carry the flip phone.
