Chainsaw use - alone

Wife died 11 years ago. Cut alone all the time. Few neighbors around within ear shot. What's an old guy to do? Lots of tractor and outdoor stuff is dangerous. At 86 YO, 5'4" ...142 lbs I'm still at it. Just lucky I guess, but much slower now with more aches and a sore knee. I do wear a helmet though... sometimes remember to carry the flip phone.

I've been with my wife for almost 40 years. Once, she mowed the lawn. My back was out, and I was down for the count. I really appreciated it. I know she'd do it if I needed her to. And I do help with other chores if she asks. I cook about half of the meals these days. I did 5 of 7 for three years a while back. Helps I'm a good cook. I always help clean up after dinner, put the food away, help with dishes, etc... that way we get done faster and can go for a longer walk after dinner. It's kind of evolved to 'she has her stuff and I have mine' that we are responsible for, but both of us can and will do the other's stuff if needed. Works for us. :thumbsup:

Yah, That's another hing I am not allowed to do...mow around the house.
That's HER area. I do get to fix her mower when it acts up though.

Ha! My wife said when I croak, she's moving to a townhouse where she pays to have the landscape maintained.

But a lot of us are the generation that rode in cars without seatbelts, drank water out of a hose or creek, rode in the back of pick ups, rode bikes without helmets and untold number of other "unsafe" things.

I cut alone most of the time, unless I'm on a ladder and cutting. Then I tell the wife I'm doing that so she will be aware if I call out. Cutting trees is all about physics and potential energy. My dad had no idea what potential energy was, so he did unbelievably stupid stuff. I couldn't even work around him. And I'm still surprised he didn't get killed felling trees. I think any one alone is good if they do the rules. Look at the tree, look at the terrain, where do you want it to fall, have a plan to escape with good footing, if it goes wrong, and know all the equipment is expendable.

Always cut alone. I wear chaps and a piece of military equipment called a cranial that incorporates head, eye, and ear protection all in one. I never cut when tired, which means I take a lot more breaks than I used to!

Yes, but I only drank out of the fast moving water in the creek ahead of the pasture. :thumbsup:
