Cheap Landscape Rake

Just built a new house and getting a welder is way down the list as far as priorities, behind the brick patio, lawn, landscaping, 600' of fence to start, driveway, a barn would be nice, and about 10 other things. I ordered 20 tines from Agri-Supply, and had most of the other parts. I have about $80 Invested. A little concerned about how it will hold up, but so far it has work great. Now if the rain would just hold of.

Here is a picture of the receiver hitch! The rake is about 48" wide, spaced the tines every 2". With the 4" X 6" Lumber is has pretty good weight behind it. Made about 10 passes last night, and it did a good job cleaning up roots etc.

I get through some of these projects and welder comes up on the priority list I always have the option to rebuild this rake, but it gets the job done for now. I shouldn't compare, but I got the idea from and earlier thread from "Maker Mark" as to how to best obtain the parts. He is obviously a pro at this fabrication stuff.

Great job!! and the price was certainly right. I think, unless you are doing commercial work, you have a winner.

If it does the job, it is more than good enough. A little paint, some router work, sanding and it would be a high dollar item. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. Keep up the good work

"Good is good enough". I bet you will break fewer tines than a factory rake. The wood provides a softer seat and a longer grip. See Dourobob's thread Is "pretty good" " good enough"

Looks good! In fact i was looking for an old spike harrow to drag up scrub. Would be a good sister to my disk harrow.

Having the tines turned down would cause a deeper bite I suppose, but I'd put a weight rack on top to finish it off. Not sure if it could take the punishment up-state glacial till.

On the welder, it is top priority in my book. I've got an old Lincoln AC buzzbox dating to 75 that's made me 8 trailers, a number of repair jobs, a jeep floorpan (bronze braze) and basically paid for itself 10 times over. That and a cement mixer you never get rid of.

What do the tines go for?

I bought tines with 2 bolt holes, again concerned the the rake would hold up. They were something like $2.50 per tine. Ends up being a little pricey on the shipping charges.
