I am no expert on the chinese chippers but I suspect it is more than you bx22 can easly handle. Where is the 1200 pound lift capacity rated at the pins or 2' back or? Good luck.

The BX22 specification for 24" behind is 680#. I don't think this chipper would be right for the BX22. John

I've had no problems with my chipper outside of normal maint. and would reccomend one to anybody who has a tractor that can safely attach to it. That being said, I think they are little on the heavy side for a BX22.

I haven't run a BX22, only looked at one up close and although the PTO would probably power the chipper just fine, I don't think you'll be able to transport it safely.

FWIW...

I have to agree that the BX would not be able to move this chipper. I have an L3600 and it grunts every time I lift it. There is an identical but smaller Jinma Model 4 Chipper (we all have a Model 6). It weighs in at 675# and is suitable for an 8 to 35 Hp tractor. You can check out the specs here.Maybe Gary can order you one of those. I think the BX could handle it.

As far as the circlip problem, I'll admit it is annoying but I wouldn't give the chipper back for a full refund either. I'll get it settled. For the price Gary sells this unit for, I'd buy it again in a second.

Good luck!

I recently decided that I needed a chipper for my 25+ acres of timber which suffered a bad ice storm about two years ago. I had been leaning toward the DR 3pt chipper, but then I found this thread and I'm seriously thinking of finding one.

I use an old AC WD for farm work, which should have the horsepower to handle this chipper (25 HP at the pto), but I'm wondering about the weight. I've got a 500lb mower that makes the tractor just a hair tippy, so I'm leery of strapping a 800lb hunk of metal to the back.

Anyone have any thoughts about how big of a tractor you really need for this?

I don't think this chipper is the one for you. It is a very heavy piece of equipment as you know. It actually weighs in at 880#. Technically your horsepower will handle it but I don't think you would be happy with the results. There is an identical Model 4 which is a bit smaller. It weighs 675#. It still sounds heavy for you but certainly more feasible. Go here to see the specs on both.

Good luck!

For all of you who own this chipper:

As you may know a few of us are having a bit of a problem with the feed roller drive shaft. A mechanic friend of mine raised an interesting question the other day. Why is one end of the shaft about 8" higher than the other? The high end is at the small hydraulic motor box. He (and now I) don't understand why this motor wasn't mounted lower so it would be even with the other end of a shaft. Then you wouldn't need a universal joint at all...just a straight shaft. We've looked at it from all angles and can't see why this wasn't done yet we feel there must be a reason. Any thoughts?

The shaft at the feed roller end moves up and down as wood is fed into the chipper. If you pull on the lever to raise the feed roller, it will become pretty obvious how the feed shaft operates while wood is being fed into the chipper.

This is why it is so important that the two sections freely slide against each other.

I just ordered one of the chippers from Emerybuilt. When I first assemble it what can I do to stop the circlip from wearing out?
