FWIW, if you plant it a few weeks early and use the seed as bait you will do a lot better with it. Illegal, yes, but chufa "growers" do it all the time. Chufa should be planted after turkey season (at least well after the last frost) if you really wanted to try to grow it.

Its tough for them to pull up a plant in firm ground to get at the nuts, but loose soil is much easier. Turkeys will swamp a nutgrass infested field after it has been disked a few times.

Well, it is not exactly in the same family... IT IS THE SAME SPECIES!

Cyperus esculentus = Chufa = Yellow Nutsedge = Nutgrass for the southern boys

Why in the heck would anyone plant yellow nutsedge?:confused2:

I didn't know this. I hate nutsedge, but I think what I'm dealing with is a different type. Either way, I'm sure not going to risk another invasive species that I will have to fight down the road.
