Cleaning Snow From Blower; Tell Me How

I keep mine outside, too, but I still believe knocking off that buildup that forms on the cutting edge can only help the cutting edge perform better on the next fresh snowfall. Otherwise it seems it would be more apt to push along the snow, causing it to build up a bit before contacting the auger. At least that's my theory...

Simply Hollar, "HEY WIFE - GET YOUR ARSE OUT HERE AND CLEAN THIS OFF!!"

Sheesh.

JayC

Geez, if I did that she would be hollering out the front door to come in and do these dishes and the laundry needs folding.:confused2:

I ain't going there.!!

I would be invited to live in the insulated 2 apartment dog house where the labradors resided

Besides that, she likes the Toro snow pup.

My blower (tractor too) also lives outside. All I do is knock off the caked snow around the drive chain and out of the chute so it doesn't ice up on me for the next use. I spray WD40 liberaly on the auger, chute, chain and in the inside corners of the blower itself before each use. So far so good but this is only my first winter with the blower. I have been using WD40 on my 5' ATV blade for 4 years and it just makes cleaning it up that much easier when I am done. The ATV (year round) and blade (winter only) lives in the garage and it keeps the run off from the thaw to a minimum.

I don't bother cleaning the snow off. Park the tractor, lower the implements, and shut it off. Mine lives outside, so no mess on the floor to worry about. Next time I want to use it, I spin the auger with my foot, making sure auger and impeller turn freely, and I give the spout a little twist to make sure it's not frozen. If everything moves, it's ready to go.

Thumbs up!

Just don't let wet slushy snow freeze up, get rid of it first hand otherwise I agree.

Outside, cold, you get little or no rust as ice and snow don't cause rust but water will!

Oh, and I just 'drop' my 3 point and usually most of the snow simply shakes loose.

The only thing I deal with is ice and snow on the floorboard. The last thing I need is to have a chunk of ice go under the pedal. Other than that I put a couple of 2x4s under the skids once I'm done so if anything melts it's not going to freeze in the auger. Maybe next year when it's warm out I'll try coating it with something, who knows.
