What about the problems with the radiators cracking? Is that Navistar's fault too?

What about the problems with the oil coolers and EGR valves on the 6.0? Is that Navistar's fault too?

Surely somewhere in there you can muster up and say that somewhere along in there it's FORD's fault. Ford put the engine in their truck, ready or not, and therefore it's FORD's fault.
Exactly. The emission stuff is the issue.

Most of the miles would be back from the dealership which is about an hour drive for them. I'm guessing they just put a few hundred miles on it.

The problem with a lawyer is where does the money come from? Do you spend a few thousand bucks on a lawyer and not come out ahead?

I told her to write down all the times it's been in the shop, send a letter to the owner and demand a trade dollar for dollar. I'd also think the warranty company would want to get out from under that truck.

Is there any possibility of contacting the state attorney general's office? Or does the state have a stand alone consumer protection agency? While there may or may not be legal warranty issues involved due to mileage, sometimes a letter or inquiry into the situation from an agency like this will motivate the dealer or warranty company to go a little above & beyond.

Aren't there stats that show how (un)reliable the 6.4 is to take the opinions, and insults, out of this discussion?

I was hoping this thread wouldn't degrade into the usual Ford debate.

A little off topic but the 6.7 Ford diesel? Worked with a couple of people this last summer and they liked them. They are contractors that build bridges and put a lot of miles on in a year. They always carry a lot of weight in the bed also. One guys truck was dark blue, crew cab, one ton, single rear wheel, leather, very nice ride.

I'm sorry if anyone took it as an insult. It just really grinds on me how DP can harp on everything done bad by GM and Dodge both while refusing that Ford has laid a bunch of turds in their day as well. Anybody who has even a little bit of experience knows that the 6.4 is, has, and always will be a problem child. My mechanic summed it up for me when I bought my 6.0. He told me that the 6.0 has it's problems but we could work around them and fix it. He told me to stay away from the 6.4 at all costs. All 6.4's are ticking timebombs, they just come with different detonators from the factory on how many miles until they let go. And last time I checked Navistar didn't make all the emissions junk, Ford did.

Every single person that I know that owns a 6.4, without exception, has had major problems with the engine/truck/emissions. Most have dumped their 6.4's. The ones that have not wish they would've long ago. Our own member here (Brian55) ended up dumping his as well due to the same problems most other users have.

They both share the blame. I owned two 6.0 diesels and had no problems with either one. I traded both before 100k miles. Even though I had no problems, plenty of farmers in my area did. The local diesel mechanic was swamped with 6.0 and 6.4 diesels needing repairs. Now the EB drilling of intercoolers. It seems Ford puts the motors in the trucks then addressed (somewhat) the issues. The other 2 (GM and dodge) are not much better. The 6.7 diesel is better, hopefully no major issues as I like the 3/4 ton Fords the best and will look strongly at one should the need for one arise again.

Yes, very. And it's a beast at 440HP and 880 FT TQ.

Chris

What is the fuel mileage with the 6.7? I really like diesels (I have an '03 Duramax, and had a Dodge Cummins before that), but it sounds like the newer diesels don't get the mileage that the older ones got.

Do I count? I know you don't know me, but I own a 6.4 have had zero problem with the engine truck. I had the dreaded radiator leak, but that was fixed under warranty, and I would not call that major.

Overall, that engine has been much less trouble-prone than the 6.0. It's big issues are the emissions on the truck (and the leaky radiator) and horrible fuel economy. I stayed away from the 6.0 when I bought my truck due to the number of issues with that engine.

The 6.7L has been extremely reliable, and puts out gobs of HP and torque.

The 6.7L is on par, or just above the 6.0. My dad had an '11 (sold it due to selling his fifth wheel) and he would routinely get 3 MPG loaded (identical shape/weight fifth wheels) and 4-5 MPG empty better than my '08. He was normally 1-2 MPG better than his '03 6.0.

It's hard to say your truck is reliable with last time I seen you mention with under 60,000 miles on it. We've put near that many miles on trucks in a year. The radiator leak is a big issue because it is so very common and ford didn't do a recall on it. Most leak after the 36'000 mile warranty and ford does not stand behind them. I know of personally more than 2 dozen 6.4s with the bad radiator. Ford's refusal to stand behind their products is what lost me as a customer.
