These things are way more handy than a compact tractor (and way more expensive) Given a bit more ground clearance, I'd seriously consider one for skidding trees out of the forest. Maybe all they would need is an ag tire for added height. You seem not to really need a backhoe attachment with one of these things.

Ground clearance has not been a problem in the four years that I have been using them and I do a lot in the woods.

I use the stump bucket for what other guys do with a backhoe.

If more depth is needed, there is this type of attachment.


And for deep digging the full-fledged backhoe attachment.

Here is a "backhoe job" that I did with the stump bucket.


It is a small stump, with a lot of lateral roots.


Broke the roots and popped it out. :thumbsup:

Took it to the burn pile

Used the tree puller on the biggest cedar tree that I have tried to pull so far. It is about 5" in diameter.

Raised the rear end when I tried to pull it straight up, so I curled down while pulling up and moving forward. That broke some roots loose. You can see the crack in the ground.



Curled up while pulling up and moving backwards. That broke some roots on the other side.


Went forward again and it started coming up.


Raised the boom, the cedar came out of the ground and brought another tree with it!


Shook the dirt off of the roots and the other tree fell to the ground.

It looks to be about 3" in diameter.

1 pull, 2 trees! :thumbsup:

I had a telehandler, albeit not a compact one. Dynalift with 8000# capacity. I miss the reach, but that is about all.

All the pluses of the handler you mention apply to a compact wheel loader as well. That is what I have now, and I just love it! I can see my forks and had a low profile bucket built where I can see the cutting edge.

I thought I would miss the frame levelling on the handler for aligning pallet forks but I don't seem to miss that either. I had the multi mode steering on ours and it never could drive down the road in a straight line which was annoying.

My Dad and I once dug a stone the size of a volkswagon out of the middle of a field with the forks on the handler. I don't think my Kubota R510 could have lifted that stone though!

The V417 is 6' wide, 6.5' high and 13' long. Tire size is 14x17.5. Top speed is 15.5 mph, drawbar pull is 7,000 pounds, boom breakout force is 6700 lbf, bucket breakout force is 4700 lbf and it will lift over 5,000 pounds, 17 feet high.

Three Castor Storage Dolly

Made a three castor storage dolly for the three point adapter. This one is an old 2x12.
