After I sold the V518, I bought a JCB 520-40.


Bought this one 9-10-2010

But it had a problem, so I returned it and got my money back.

Found this 2009 Demo with 44 hours, at a Bobcat dealer in Kansas.


It was delivered on 9-29-2010. And the rest is history!

I liked the larger wheels and tires, compared to the JCB.

Now, since we moved and am not removing silt, I may downsize again to a JCB 515-40.

VERY dang impressive I would say. I'm curious to know what the down angle is. Or more specifically, if sitting on a flat level place, what is the deepest scoop of dirt I could take out of the ground. Assume no boom extension. Right in front of the machine. How deep can I get?

A little deeper than the length of the bottom of the bucket. The Versahandlers have a bigger bucket than a skid steer, but a long bottom skid steer bucket will work on the V417.

I did dig several trenches with the V518.


Dug a trench for a culvert pipe. This bucket is 7.5' wide, 1.25 cubic yard capacity.

Motion impaired.


Lowered the boom, raising the front end.
Extended the boom, first push back, up the hill.


Second push back, notice the receiver hitch is buried.


Third push, the boom extends about 5.5 feet.


Fourth push.


Fifth push, still no traction. Almost to the top of the little hill.


Finally made it, have traction. It unstucked itself! :laughing:

Xfaxman, can you tell me what the maximum reach is on the V417 from in front of the wheels to the SSA?

The Website says 124" for max reach, but I think that is to the tip of the forks. http://www.bobcat.com/versahandler/compare_models/v417

The boom slides out about 5.5 feet.


I will measure it the next time I use it, after the ice melts and the weather warms up.

It is 16" from the front of the tire, to the front of the SSQA plate.


The inner boom slides out 66", so it would be 82" to the front of the SSQA plate..


Bucket full of red clay, boom all the way up, but not extended because the ground is soft and not level.


The lift height is listed at 17', but I haven't measured it.


It will make some big brush piles!
