( I am thinking about getting the CCW permit,if I carried the pistol on me I am not sure if I would keep it loaded all of the time, the gun itself would make people think in a threataning situation, but I would hate for it to be unloaded if I really needed it.
Maybe someone can answer this: Can an individual get a license or permit to own a machine gun? )
Old Hickory, the only thing worse than not carrying a gun at all, is carrying a gun unloaded. Why? You have a gun, but no ammo. The perp sees the gun... you're a dead man. If I was forced to carry it unloaded, I'd just leave it home. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If for any reason, you don't feel comfortable carrying it safely (usually one in the chamber, decocked, safety on), and ready to fire on a second's notice, or you are uncomfortable with the idea of shooting or killing a person to protect your life, don't strap one on. If you hesitate and give a thug the upper hand, he'll have 2 guns next time he confronts someone.
As for class 3 firearms (machine guns, explosives, certain collectible guns, novelty guns, "silencers", guns with "cut off barrels" i.e. under 16 inches for rifles, 18 inches for shotguns, or with an overall length of I think less than 26 inches overall, whether you can own them depends on your state, county or city governments. You have to have an interview or two with your sheriff or police chief, or state police, depending on where you live. Then, you go through a huge background check (at YOUR cost) with the FBI, then pay a $200 tax on each item, and keep exhaustive records of them. You can and probably will get a visit from your local ATF office from time to time to make sure you are in compliance, and they are subject to forfeiture if your state laws change. That's in the few states that let you have them.
Then, you can't shoot them. A lot of ranges no longer allow full auto or class 3 weapons there... even though I don't know of an accident involving a class 3 weapon in the last 20 years.
Feeding them costs a LOT of money- they go through ammo so quickly that you can't afford to shoot them.
All this, plus the dang things can cost as much as a brand new JD990 with all the implements.... or more. They are rare...a rich man's game. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Give me a good bolt action. I'll enjoy it just as much, and spend the money I save on my tractor and farm. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Respectfully, and without malice...
