Concealed Weapons Good Or Bad?

Although OkeeDon and I obviously don't agree on this subject, I'll be bold and state that I think we probably both feel we've "said our peace" to one another with regards to our views. (PLEASE agree with me on this one OkeeDon! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

It doesn't mean things couldn't go downhill going forward, or that he or I are precluded from posting going forward either, but I don't smell a stink brewing just yet. Actually while observing from a far for a while now I've been quite pleased with the way the thread has gone overall. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Agree with you? Easiest thing I've ever done. I know I have been tiptoeing very, very carefully to avoid giving offense to any of my TBN friends regardless of whether we agree or not, and you have obviously been doing the same. One of the best and most fruitful discussions I've had in a while; I feel like I've learned something. That with the obvious exception of the few naysayers who predict dogfights at every opportunity, of course, but even there I can /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got my Indiana permit so I could legally carry a loaded gun. I do not carry in everyday life.

I got the permit so I could carry loaded when I am off to the woods or range in my truck or car. I usually don't carry loaded in the vehicle either but the permit says I can.

This is my choice and my right within the law. I respect it.

For the case of idiots with guns, I know of a few law officers who shouldn't be carrying.

I cannot recall a problem in Indiana that happened with a permit carrying person. I am not saying it hasn't happened, just saying I don't recall hearing about it.

OkeeDon, with all due respect, your argument is like saying nobody should be allowed to own cars because you know of some people who aren't responsible drivers. If this was a problem, the concealed weapon programs wouldn't be so successful.

I don't have a permit yet, but plan to, especially to keep a gun in my drawer at work. If some psycho comes down the hall figuring on shooting somebody because of some beef he had with somebody, I would like to be able to do something other than put my head between my legs and kiss my butt goodbye!

I would not keep one loaded in my house (no need to where I live) but other places yes I would carry it loaded and thanks for the answer on the class 3.

Uh, excuse me but it happens all the time and having more people with guns would just result in more chaos. If hoodlums or gang bangers had a shoot out and you had your "hog" would pull it out and join in? My question is why conceal them, just wear it quickdraw style like Doc? Why have this concealed carry, why not just wear and carry them in the open. What does concealing them accomplish? Why the subtrefuge? Love guns, just don't think in a civilized society everyone needs to wear one and I am not ready to give up on my fellow citizens and admit that civilization has failed. J

Concealed carry is for personal defense situations. No state that has instituted CCW has had an increase in violence related to the CCW. Several (Florida in particular) had reductions (caveat: the thugs went after tourists instead..especially foriegn tourists).

As far as joining in on a gun fight with "hoodlums or gang bangers "...com'on, man...that's a ludicrous statement. Heck...something like that goes down...you run! The gun is for when you cannot run.

And as a reflection of our modern society, the bad guys carried their guns into town when there was a law forbidding it. There is an auto parts store nearby that has a sticker on the door that said "No firearms allowed". It always made me chuckle. Can you imagine the bad guy who was about to rob the place reads the sticker and thinks, "I was gonna rob the place, but they don't allow guns!" For some reasons our lawmakers think that the criminals will obey new laws or more laws. Let me have my freedoms but punish the lawbreakers more swiftly and harshly.
