Confronting another tresspasser. Step 1 went ok

When you read enough of these trespassing/bad neighbor threads, they all seem to have main points in common:

1. "A guy crossed my land, urinated on my blueberry bushes/stole my lawn mower/drove a four wheeler over my crops..etc. I called the cops and the cops wouldn't do anything"

2. Half the people say "Shoot em!" or "if it were me, Id shoot them" or "thats why I always carry guns with me where ever I go" The other half of the people say "Don't shoot them you'll get in trouble!" or "People who carry guns everywhere are misguided" At which point the 2nd ammendment argument starts.

3. Someone suggests a clever way to make a booby trap for the tresspassers out of scrap building materials, half the people agree, and half the people talk about how much trouble you can get in for that.

4. And no trespassing/bad neighbor story thread is complete without someone throwing in "remember mdbarb!"

All things considered, I still find them entertaining.

Except this one has nothing to do at all with the posters property.

I absolutely hate trespassers, and look forward to your updates.

jimpen, I'm pretty sure that would be a huge invitation to an even more huge liability or criminal intent lawsuit.

Dont count on it. I know neighbors like them.

Thanks for your concern. We're fairly close to a big city & I don't suppose this is the first time someone has moved to the country (onto 1/2 ac) and decided that what he'd done under the radar of working folks meant his presence was well established. I admit I was pushing for dramatic effect ... a Dad being all emotional about a challenge to the authority that likely rules his own roost.

I've been on my ten for 13yrs and have always fit in, happy to mow, spray weeds, dig, till, or push snow for those (2) who had previous agreements to watch over the two tracts of land, and for three others also still working. I never ask for anything in return (gas, diesel, or the $ offered to cover them) but am invited to all b'day parties, BBQs, Easter egg hunts, open houses etc.

Building relationships with kids and g-kids is my reward, and the older ones (say 7-15) often to work for $, although some think that just driving the golf cart is a job all by itself. btw: when someone's youngster goes home smiling with $$ for camp, school, or sports ($10/hr) I always report how hard they worked, even if we just gathered a few sticks from the lawn and spent hours fishing, canoeing, or stalking starlings with pellet guns. (I'm still a kid at 64)

Once again, I apologize for a poor presentation that could have been better understood w/o my arcane attempt to relate without the names. The landowners haven't yet been informed of the recent happenings, and the two long-assigned 'guardians' fear their ire if perceived to have forsaken their promised duties. My role, upon request, was to see what was up.

It was my idea to offer to take an ID photo as part of that task. I suppose that, and the reaction, was what I thought might give our guy Murph (love ya, man) and others another tale with potentially dramatic consequences.

"Cranky old sot and grumpy retired cop meet DIY landscapers who crossed their lines"?? It hasn't gone that far yet but that would be "step 2" if they're called and informed. (might they shoot the messengers? Neither has a 'warm & fuzzy' demeanor. "stay tuned!")

No one will be riding on the new guys home 'track' as turnabout, and my part in this has been fulfilled, well plus a brief conversation with a nice young man who chose to keep his face mask on and could give his father some lessons on manners. btw: the realtors don't know they're listing properties that have been taken over as public playgrounds ...

Murph, and others, I promised to relate further developments and will try to spin the news for entertainment value. ;)

It speaks volumes about the sensibilities and personalities involved that the "guardians" are evidently terrified about repercussions of not fulfilling their "promised duties". I like to look after my neighbors and their property, and they do the same for me. It is a totally voluntary arrangement, based on mutual respect, not fear.

If the lady shows up to see how we're doing, she'll likely be sotted and would be PO'd if she had the slightest idea what was going on.

Our now-deceased neighbor hated quads, bikes, sleds, 'boggers' .. anything he could see or hear, sometimes even if crossing the other 20 to get to trails we're allowed to cut firewood behind both spreads. We'd hear his vitriol because 'it's you "%#@s" again'. (not so..) btw: The lady's lawyer is good. He got her sentence reduced when she ran over a guy who got her goat at the bar. Her being in the bag helped to make it negligent homicide vs a deliberate assault.

So is this the neighbor who's land you're "defending" as it were? Sounds like a real piece of work.

I honestly hated to be 'that guy' but someone else would have to be.

So this isn't really about trespassing, but about noise, correct? You hated the neighbor, and his wife is a murderous drunk B****. The issue is that the dirt bikers disturb your grandkids naps? While they are using property that you have no control of?

Is Mid-Michigan on another planet, in another galaxy, far, far away?
Or is it on a lost continent....with a strange language....that I think I can't understand?
Weird......
