Craigslist translator

A lot of people much rather email or text than talk to a human for whatever reason. Personally if I am really interested I really want to talk to you so I can find out the most information and get a "feel" for the seller.
:ashamed: Don't tell anyone here, but I do most of my Craigslist shopping at work. I cannot make calls - a bit too obvious. It is strictly email for me.

That does make sense!

This from a sellers perspective (me):
Potential buyer sets up appointment and calls back next day: I can't make it over to look at your dump truck Saturday, I have to work overtime.
Translation: Wife found out about it and said you have a dump truck and don't need a bigger one.

Everybody has probably seen the replies from robots or whoever, they use to be " I'd like to buy your item. (without mentioning what it is) Price is good. Do you still have ?"
Anybody know why they do that? Just to get your email? Then what?

So the other day I get a new one: "hey you dumb idiot &$*#, quite over-posting your item".
I had renewed an add that had been up for a few weeks, and his message was effective in getting my dander up so I replied and told them to shove off in less polite words.
But now I think it was just a clever way to get my email address.
The emailer later sent me another insult about using craigslist wrong and called me a "stupid n*gger"??? Clever scam!

They seem to come up with something new everyday.

Fortunately, Craigslist now sends a link at the bottom of the email so that you can block them...

I just thought it was so clever, because throwing an insult is such a very very effective distraction away from your normal leeriness of having your guard up when someone replies and expresses interest.
Very effective at pushing your buttons and triggering you to respond and tell off this idiot that you don't realize that's their objective.

70% undercarriage = 30% undercarriage

All original! = bend over for this "deal"

All highway miles= buyer and bluebook don't agree

Leaks just a couple of drips= buy extra dawn soap for the ole exxon Valdez II here. Your going to be scrubbing neighbor cats in the kitchen sink.

Me too, especially if I find the ad at 11PM...

Same here - and I've found some good bargains, like my Stihl 088, lightly used w/ blade, boxes, CSM for $450.

All highway miles= buyer and bluebook don't agree
Highway miles means it doesn't show up as a trail on a map.

My favorite is "rust"
No rust = hasn't broken thru the one thin coat of paint I sprayed on.
Light rust = can't fit your finger thru the holes
Some rust = parts of the frame are still there

"Cash in hand" : I'll give you $1.00 for every $1000 of real value. And it will be in coins because that's all the money in my cup holders.

I thought of this old thread a few minutes ago seeing an ad on marketplace for a dozer:

Dozer, fires right up. The track is loose we don't have time to fix it. It will drive onto a trailer
Translation: Undercarriage is toast and we can't find parts. Better bring a winch with your trailer.

I just don’t use it anymore.

I wish I could still get it to work.

Called a guy that listed a '70 Nova for sale, pictures were really bad, and I asked him what kind of shape the body was in. He says "it's a good solid car a little rust in the rockers, but that's about all.
I drove 40 miles to look at it, and it was a total piece of junk, more holes rusted through every panel than you could count. Didn't look like it had been moved in 30 years. The engine was setting in the dirt, not covered, carb open to rain and one valve cover was off.

I just walked away and left before I called him an idiot for having wasted my time.

Rare. ---------- I'm charging 15% more than retail.

OBO. ----------- If you match the price I really expected to get out of the item.

Antique ........ Item looks to be at least 20 years old, yet its a reproduction anyway.

Gaming system. ----- ten year old computer with an added RGB fan.
