Craigslist translator

A lot of people much rather email or text than talk to a human for whatever reason. Personally if I am really interested I really want to talk to you so I can find out the most information and get a "feel" for the seller.
:ashamed: Don't tell anyone here, but I do most of my Craigslist shopping at work. I cannot make calls - a bit too obvious. It is strictly email for me.

That does make sense!

I am a big fan of Down East Dickering, love the show, very entertaining.

This from a sellers perspective (me):
Potential buyer sets up appointment and calls back next day: I can't make it over to look at your dump truck Saturday, I have to work overtime.
Translation: Wife found out about it and said you have a dump truck and don't need a bigger one.

Everybody has probably seen the replies from robots or whoever, they use to be " I'd like to buy your item. (without mentioning what it is) Price is good. Do you still have ?"
Anybody know why they do that? Just to get your email? Then what?

So the other day I get a new one: "hey you dumb idiot &$*#, quite over-posting your item".
I had renewed an add that had been up for a few weeks, and his message was effective in getting my dander up so I replied and told them to shove off in less polite words.
But now I think it was just a clever way to get my email address.
The emailer later sent me another insult about using craigslist wrong and called me a "stupid n*gger"??? Clever scam!

They seem to come up with something new everyday.

Fortunately, Craigslist now sends a link at the bottom of the email so that you can block them...

I just thought it was so clever, because throwing an insult is such a very very effective distraction away from your normal leeriness of having your guard up when someone replies and expresses interest.
Very effective at pushing your buttons and triggering you to respond and tell off this idiot that you don't realize that's their objective.

70% undercarriage = 30% undercarriage

All original! = bend over for this "deal"

All highway miles= buyer and bluebook don't agree

Leaks just a couple of drips= buy extra dawn soap for the ole exxon Valdez II here. Your going to be scrubbing neighbor cats in the kitchen sink.

Me too, especially if I find the ad at 11PM...

Same here - and I've found some good bargains, like my Stihl 088, lightly used w/ blade, boxes, CSM for $450.

All highway miles= buyer and bluebook don't agree
Highway miles means it doesn't show up as a trail on a map.

My favorite is "rust"
No rust = hasn't broken thru the one thin coat of paint I sprayed on.
Light rust = can't fit your finger thru the holes
Some rust = parts of the frame are still there
