Perseverance pays off. Got my heron shot. Wish I was closer, but a guess thats what the crop function is for. I cropped the picture to look as it does.
Full length is nice.
That's a great shot!

Thanks. I got the photo bug during our honeymoon to Alaska in 2007. Still a hobbyist though, nowhere near a pro.
Don't knock your yourself, the photos are very good.
I made my living doing what I loved, taking photos, but after years of it being a job, most of us lose the passion for fun pix. There were years that I didn't take my point and shoot camera on vacation. That's changing in retirement and as I travel more and not grabbing my camera for work. My mom used to ask me where my camera was and I'd reply it's where my contractor brothers hammer was, at home.
Keep it up and enjoy and keep posting here where we can enjoy your great shots.
Thanks for the boost of confidence. The whole Alaskan trip my camera was set to auto mode. It wasn't until just recently (pelican and blue heron) that I've ventured into manual mode. Those were the two best shots out of about 100 shots I took. Still have a lot to learn, but do enjoy learning.
You're most welcome. The joy of shooting digital is that you can throw away hundreds of images and it doesn't cost you anything.
When I was first shooting weddings in the 80's with a medium format camera, we were chewed out if we shot something that wouldn't go in the album and if we shot over 100 photos as 80 were put in the album. We only had a few that we could waste doing doubles of large groups and of the couple. Fortunately, those days are gone.
Learn aperture(F-stop), shutter speeds, ISO and depth of field, it will help you tweak your shots.
But mostly just enjoy what you do. Keep it up.
