We had an 'Outback' here as well. They went **** up a couple years ago. We went there maybe once and we weren't impressed at all.

We’ve had very good steaks and other food at our local Outback Steakhouse, and they are actually reasonably priced.

I suspect each one is a privately owned franchise. The one we had here, blew.

Is Ponderosa still around? I not so fondly remember years ago going to one and the steak was so loaded with tenderizer, it was horrible...

Rob eye was 30% fat... Not counting any marbling. 9 oz. 1/2 inch think (thin) and $25-30 a plate with $2 of vegetables. Not what I call cheap when I can have that 16oz. 1 inch thick deliciously cooked by me for $16- 18 at home complete. I'll keep saving that money...in 2019 we were spending $50 a week dining out. $200 a month - $2400 a year

Every location I knew of went out of business (years ago).

Our local butcher often has whole boneless rib eyes on sale. You have to buy the whole thing. But it's usually $5-6 a pound. They weigh 14 pound average, but we usually get one that's bigger than that. We always end up with about 20-22 steaks for under $100. So less than $5 per steak. We've gotten pretty good at cooking them. So we rarely order steak at restaurants. We'll try something we haven't had before instead.

In 1989 there were almost 700 Ponderosa locations. By 2003 there were less than 400 locations. By October 2022 only 17 Ponderosa locations remain open.

I had a friend that worked at Ponderosa in high school back in the 70's. He ended up managing it for several years until it closed, then moved to another location in the next town over and ran that for about 30 years. It closed in 2016.

When I worked at the airport, we'd go there for carryout lunch. A large cheese burger with grilled onions, with any toppings you could fit on it from the salad bar, a huge portion of potato wedges, and a drink for $5. We probably ate there once every two weeks. It was always good. I think that's more due to the manager and staff than anything.

Our Ponderosa closed in 2020. The building was torn down and there's a Culver's there now.
