deck mounted string trimmer?

Hi Guys

I have a good friend who spends many hours each week mowing at a local cemetery. This is a volunteer position and not a paid position. Due to all the headstones there is a lot of trimming. He had been talking about designing and building a deck mounted string trimmer that would have spring pressure etc to have to go around obstacles such as headstones etc. As we discussed it it came into play that this may already be on the market. I found these two devices on YouTube but either I had the wrong keywords for my search or this topic may not have been kicked around here?

I bought two walk behind string trimmers off of Craigslist for $50 a few years ago, one has a 5hp the other 6.5 hp engine. I was going to build one of these with one Tow-Behind ATV Trimmer Mower: 7.25 Briggs (string trimmer) | DR Power Equipment

They are so much better and more powerful than a handheld trimmer I haven't converted either. Keep one at home and have the other at the farm.

There are a bunch designed for zero turns, so try a search for ztr string trimmer.

This one, although not deck mounted or string, looks pretty heavy duty. 16 hp with a 33" blade!

Thanks for the responses guys, we're still looking at the options. It's truly amazing to see some of the things TBNers have dreamed up and built.

Without looking at the photos.. I do remember a guy who added a 12 volt motor and an arm setup to the front left side of his riding mower . It had a string trimmer that would trim along the building sides... A small guide wheel and some springs allowed it to ride a bit out from the deck edge .. I think it cut 12"" wider than the deck ... I think it was in Farm Show , not sure when though ...

I have a string trim mower but a lot of fence line to trim and I'm not a young man anymore. Was thinking of mounting it on my front loader on my SCUT, somehow. Could raise and lower and adjust the tilt angle with the bucket controls and the distance to the fence with the front wheels. Don't want to too heavily modify the mower so could convert it back to pushing it. Any one done something like this??

DR equipment has one designed for trimming along fences and around posts that looks like it would do the job.

I have a swisher postmaster trimmer. I takes 4 .155 lines and the cutter is spring loaded. Workes great under fences and edging ponds but I am not so sure around headstones.

i am kinda wondering if a "fence line mower / trimmer" might be better. with the "arm" that causes entire trimming head to move around fence posts and like might be for a cemetery and like... though on other hand i could quickly see after a few times usage. find a build up or rather a 'smear mark' going across all the head stones.

other issue to double check is how easy it is to re-string unit. when ya get into the bigger string, it generally is not self feeding (bump on ground and more comes out) and you need to take a short piece of new string and put into it. that might be a big down side. use up a little bit of string on the end. and you no longer trim right up against things if it has an arm that causes trimming head to move in and out. (it would not be bad for a fence line, but for a cemetery, meh...)

I mowed a cemetery with about 200 graves all last summer. Unless this cemetery is laid out far better than the one I mowed such a device just won't work. There are just too many graves too close together. I feel has pain, and don't even get me started on the dang flowers especially after Memorial Day.
