Deere MX 7

I am a little issue shy about Deere mowers,,
This one was setting on a Deere dealer lot in the used equipment section yesterday,,,
NOT the scrap section,,,

What in the world happened to it? and why would they try to sell it?

That dent circle went ALL the way around,,,:confused2:

That type of damage is pretty common on cutters I've seen. Sometimes a rock gets stuck between the blade and the deck. Sometimes it's a bent blade. Never had it happen to me, but I've probably seen more used cutters than not with that damage.

Yeah, extremely common in my experience and not a Deere specific issue, Wood, LP etc all will do that.

That is one of the MANY reasons I run a flail, rather than a rotary,,,

I took this pic today.

The only thing that would concern me about that is the mx7 and most of the Deere shredder lines are double decked. If it damaged the top skin, it would have completely trashed the interior piece. My mx7 was two pieces of 10ga with a space between them if I remember correctly

What model was the mower? Just looking at a picture of my MX6 makes me think this was a light duty cutter.

My flail looks worse. No ring, but piles of dents all over the hood. I had to cut out a chunk & patch it as knives were hitting. In all fairness it's 20+ years old & I paid $100 for it.

I like your Flail Mower. Is it a JD 390 with a 12'' or 26'' offset? I have been looking for a 390 Flail Mower that is offset for my 110.

FYI, the Chinese MXT's are no better. I lost a lower shaft last fall. Looks like the casting was bad but regardless that stump jumper puts a lot of stress on the shaft. The catch is you can order parts for the gearbox but they won't fit right. Dealer said order a new gearbox. I am looking at woods.

7' rotary cutters are a ******* size. Most people find a dual spindle 8' pulls easier than a single spindle 7'. Much more compact, maneuverable & lighter (or at least the weight is closer to the 3pt).

Personally I prefer big mowers. You go slower (trivial on a HST, hopefully you have the right gears otherwise, usually so) but cover the same acreage. Going slow means less bouncing & is generally easier on you & your machine. The downside is maneuverability.
Well,if they are a ******* size then why does every mower manufacturer make them
