Diabetes

We attended a parade over the holiday and this gal very near us sporting a pump and CGM on her arm. I thought you were suppose to have more distance between the two. I wanted to chat with her but never got the chance. Our Wally was very enamored with her.

That girl at parade looks to be young.
I really believe diet soda and probably other processed food has a LOT to do with it.
It's too coincidental my wife and family those drinking diet soft drinks all had diabetes, those not drinking it weren't.
In my family no one drank diet soda or had diabetes. I believe it fouls up the pancreas.

That stereotyping would apply to type 2 not type 1 diabetics. Looking at the picture you have no idea which she has.

You shouldn't. Without researching it completely I believe one issue is incorrect readings due to being close.

I read freezing bread will reduce the carb content by 31%.
Freezing and toasting will increase that reduction by an unspecified amount.
I use Killer Dave's low carb bread.
Toast anybody?

On the internet, misinformation about carbs and keto is everywhere. One common suggestion is that toasting bread lowers its carbohydrate content, making it friendlier to low carb diets. But does this actually work? Is there any truth to it, or is it just wishful thinking?
-----------------------------------------------
Simply put, toasting does not do much to affect nutrients and macros in white bread, although there might be one advantage gained from toasting. Toasted white bread does have a slightly lower GI, and freezing bread before toasting reduces this further, giving the starches a more tempered effect on blood sugar and insulin production. As insulin suppresses ketone production, this makes toasted bread slightly better than untoasted white bread – but in the end, it doesn’t actually change your carb intake.

My CGM says NO!!!. And from a chemistry stand point the caramelized toasty part probably breaks down faster, and thus hits your system faster than the “raw” untoasted stuff. Part of the toasting cycle is the conversion of the starches, into sugars and then the caramelization of those sugars.

If the USDA is correct freezing will have no effect on the total carbs or fiber content. Nor should it have any effect on the Glycemic Index. Unless of course you eat it frozen, which would change the net carbs, with a negligible effect on the GI.

Basically eat everything you can with minimal processing and in large particle sizes. 20-grams of Bulgar wheat, has about the same carbs of 20-grams of whole grain brown flour. Want to guess which has the higher GI? Twenty grams of Cut Grain Oatmeal, 20-grams of slow cook oatmeal, and twenty grams of quick cooking oatmeal have pretty much the same carbs and fiber. Again, guess which has the highest GI. Same calories. Same area under your blood sugar curve. The Cut oats have a lower peak, and slower impact than the instant.
