Over the last few months I've changed to a keto diet. High fat, low carb. A1C was 6.9 at the start of this change. Will report when I get a new test
Bonus = I've lost 20 pounds this year. I'm at my recommended weight.

I'm afraid there will only be one day I meet my recommended weight...
I'm at 6.0; before the 6.5 alarm bell goes off.

I find it almost impossible to stay away from breads.

More as to why I switched to the 7. The fast warmup time and I could used my phone as a secondary meter. It's not primary but the oem meter is small and one can easily lose or break it. Phone is a good backup unit.

I'm off the bread and chips. Chips were my nemesis. I play war games with some folks online at night and there was always a bag of chips or pretzels on my desk. Bad.
I found substitutes like baby carrots dipped in red pepper humus - yummy.
Cheese and wine works too. Sugar free beef jerky, and such

Are you monitoring your keytones? Carrots and humus have a relatively large number of carbs and would knock a lot of people out of nutritional ketosis. Your weight loss would lead me to believe that you are staying in.

I only missed bread for about 3-4 weeks. I've enjoyed what I am eating so much, that I don't really have the cravings anymore. My only cravings are having something sweet. After a month I was able to add some of the natural non-glycemic sweeteners.

I'm waiting on Keto test strips today.
I will see soon how good I'm actually doing in that respect.
For sweets I use sugar free dark chocolate pudding cups.

A1c home test today 10/05/23 6.3
Last 2 tests Feb/23 and July/23 were 6.9
That's when I started to try to implement a keto diet. I'm still learning what to eat and more importantly what not to eat. New goal is 6.0 by Christmas... I can hope lol

What are your favorite meals & snacks

I'm Norwegian, I CAN'T give up bread. I make my own bread bi weekly from Montana Sources whole wheat and flour that is NOT bleached. 50/50 with a two table spoons of raw local unpasteurized honey and a pinch of salt. I'd rather die happy if this is bad for me.
