Diesel Storage Tank Setup

here in Idaho they wont even fill a tank like that from the fuel truck.....especially if you don't have a containment field (area) that can hold all the product that can possibly leak from the tank. I know of a few people who have empty tanks nowdaze cause they cant get them filled.

Does that hold true for heating oil as well? Our supplier doesn't require containment.

I cant tell you that, cause i dont know anyone that uses fuel oil up here. I do know of alot of old fuel oil tanks for sale on spokane craigslist though.

All i know is i tried to get an overhead tank filled, no go. no one will fill it. They will fill a NEW transfer tank that is not permanently attached to a stand though...very odd. Must be a glitch in their codes.

That's weird cause I live in N ID too and they're filling tanks out here as far as I know. Where abouts are you and what fuel company are you trying to work with? Coleman oil out of Lewiston and Kendrick deliver to said tanks.

BTW - we have a fuel oil setup we use for the times when it's not cold enough to crank up a woodstove. Tank sits on a stand on the porch.

CDA here. have checked with the 2 people that deliver out here. i don't know why I'm having these issues if your not. I have a friend in Mead, WA with a 300 gal farm tank, and he told me he cant get deliveries either.

Dang - I hope that's not just because our area is a little slow on getting up on the regs. I do know there are restrictions on hauling waste oil that a lot of guys burn in those waste oil shop heaters. I think it's only 1 55 gallon barrel per trip w/o a hazardous waste hauler permit.

I'll ask my buddy that hauls for the local fuel guys and see what he knows about this thing. Doesn't sound good at all.

BTW - I also know folks who are getting some biodiesel from the distributor right at the terminal and hauling it in one of those 250 gallon poly totes you can buy.

My buddy works for Coleman Oil and he said they have a presence up in your area and would gladly deliver to you or your friend in Mead. They should be in the phone book. But just in case, PM me and I can give you a cell #.

BTW - according to him, the reg stuff has been going on for awhile but nobody knows how to monitor or enforce it so ...... also there are threshold levels of storage that "trigger" different levels of monitoring. Usually 1000 gallons is the point where they get sticky (also underground vs above).

EDIT: I got ahold of the guy in Lewiston and he gave me a few cell numbers. Their minimum is 100 gal, but at least they didnt seem to say theree is a problem with farm tanks. Im not sure why the 2 local shops say that there is.
