Difference Between Two Air Compressors

/ Difference Between Two Air Compressors #21
Been to lots of big and small auctions, but at the time when all the nice compressors were on the block I was not really looking for one. Go figure, now that I need one most of what I am finding are the smaller units.

Later this week I'm going to look at a used champion VR5-8 that's about 15 years old and low hours of use. The internet specs looked good on this compressor so I'll have to hear it run and take it from there.

This used champion VR5-8 is the compressor I purchased. Thanks to all who replyed on this thread to help me make my choice.

Thanks for the input scooby. I have been really searching hard and I am going to look at a 1980's kellogg american later this week.
I passed on a IR 7.5 hp 80 gal. It was used a couple hours according to the owner and was still strapped to the shipping pallet. The motor speed was 3450rpm and they were asking $750.

I am going to pass on the eaton compressors and try to find a good used compressor locally.
I have an old Kellogg American 331TV and would definitely recommend it among the very best. Its specs are way above any Ive been seeing. A 5HP^+, 20cfm, 750rpm compressor rated for 200psi continuous run and 250psi stop start.

I would have snagged up a kellogg 331tv in a heartbeat. But I have not come across any used ones in my area. The kellogg american I went to look at actually was a champion. The guy I bought it from thought it was a old kellogg unit. The logo sticker was on the flywheel side of the tank and impossible to see, and it was located in a very small room in a garage.

Still, ya think he would know what brand he had cause he sure knew what he paid for it, and he would not budge from his price. Anyway it will work for me. It has a mag starter box and a 1725 rpm baldor 5hp motor, turns around 700 rpm at the pump and an 80 gal tank.
