Imagine what that would do to your local business owner who sells the gas. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Personally, I don't think it would do a thing to the oil companies because we'd all just have to buy more gas the next day.

the price of fuel , not only costs us more at the pump but will effect the price of everything we buy, if it cost more to transport, it will cost u more to buy. never ending cycle, if u conserve, they don't sell enough , so the price goes up, if u use a lot then there is a shortage, so the price goes up! so in that situation i personally only have one recourse but to cut down on my driving when possible, no more trips into town for 1 thing then back 4 hrs later for something else. can not be good for the economy,

I agree and that's what I did years ago. However, that's not what bky suggested. He suggested that we 'for just one day boycot [sic] the local fuel pump.' Which, as Bird pointed out, would not accomplish anything save having to buy more gas the next day.

Unfortunately, I don't know if fuel is the largest usage of crude oil. Remember, crude oil is used to make everything from plastic Coke bottles to light weight 3-in-1 oil. That means we would have to boycot cars, consumer products, maintenance and even electricity usage. And even if all that was oordinated, the only person it would affect is the first tier vendors. All of the crude suppliers are going to be locked into contracts, and they wouldn't even know anything had happened.

Personally, I think we need to prepare for an extended pi$$ing contest with OPEC, and to some extent, oil companies. Both are addicted to oil money and you don't have to reduce their revenue by very much before they get real uncomfortable.

If we had the discipline to conserve, they would definitely notice. But they know we have an addiction too, and would probably raise prices. Which should fuel our stubbornness and further conservation. Eventually, one side would win.

Conservation would be so easy for most people because we waste so much but we don't want to make the sacrifice by ourselves. There's three of us families within two miles of each other that separately take our kids to school clear across town because pooling would require more organization. On another thread, a member is talking about adding to his 2200 watts of landscape lighting and everyone is telling him to go for it.

My main beef is with OPEC but I believe the oil companies' goal is to sell gas like airlines sell airline tickets. Constantly shifting prices to maximize revenue thru gouging people that need it badly and can't wait for the price to change.

Well OPEC: just anounced this AM that they are cutting crtude production again! so be prepaired for a 20~30 cent increase in the next few hours, and it won't come down even if they take it back this afternoon for about 3 years! so we know it has more to do with the oil companies than with OPEC in general! that is why the gas prices are $1.80 now, becasue a while back OPEC said they were slowing production, they didn't they didn't slow production at all. but prices jumped overnight 40 cents/gal and has yet to come back down!

Hi
Gas is cheap compared to pepsi, beer, whiskey, bottle water, and other liquids we consume.
I don't see a problem with the gas prices /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
