Wet ditch banks cave in. Got good and stuck today digging out a little ditch I should have done before it started raining.

Barry, your pics reminded me of the time I almost rolled the farms front end loader. I was packing the silage pile and the side of the pile gave out. The worst part about it was getting out of the cab wondering if your body weight is going to make this massive pile of steel fall on you and then once your out and get the tractor that is pulling you out hooked up you have to climb back in to steer it out. Not fun as I'm sure you now know :)

Big farm eqpt auction, lots of tractors lined up with the keys in them for trying out. My son & I are looking at the rear of an old beauty when some yahoo decides to hear her run, doesn't see it's in reverse, leans over & starts her up. I yanked junior away just in time - I'd have killed the guy except he was probably 70 yrs old. His expression told me he was killing himself for such a bad move.

My backhoe is a small "Cadplan" unit, anyone from Maine has seen them advertised in the Uncle Henry's swap guide. With no hydraulic stabilizers, it rests freely on the 3PH. When I was learning to run it, instead of digging I would sometimes push the BH up; the first time hitting my head on the roll bar. Several years later after finding this site, I read where people have been killed doing the very thing I'd experienced.

There're other tales I could tell, but don't want to own up to.

When mowing thick brush do not driveinto brush and back up, the stuff knocked down by your front axle may rise up when you back up and it might hit your fan blade and cause it to flex just right and hit your radiator thus causing a nice semi-circle slash in the radiator.

I see this occured well within sight of a public road. That is why I am growing trees along my frontage, to shield my mistakes from prying, mocking eyes.

I go by the rule of thumb: Never buy a tractor bigger than your biggest "other" vehicle. A good old full-size SUV or pickup is about right for a completely mired BX

Small trees and sapplings are the most dangerous to take out with a backhoe. They wip around and twist in directions that you never expect!!!

Dead trees will break in the middle and fall on top of you if you try to push them over. Very scary and very dangerous.

You can never go too slow, but it's easy to be going too fast.

If you drive over any branches or trees, expect some damage. They will find a way through skid plates and take out something. Even if it has to travel the entire distance of your tractor, it will.

Never drive close to an area you know is muddy and capable of getting you stuck at night time in the dark. It's very hard to know exactly how close you are to that soup filled hole and you might very well get a 40,000 pound dozer stuck in it. See attached picture. hahahaha
