DISCOVERYS OF UNSAFE TRACTORING PRACTICES

Having done a bx23barry I can tell you how I got out. Only problem was the ditch I found was an old, filled in water diversion ditch along the back of my barn. Seems when it rained the water pooled in the old clay ditch and fluidized the fill. Everything is dry and firm up top and then I started sliding right. When I leaned right, the ROPS touched the side of the barn. Added another whole dimension to getting out - How to get out and not put a hole in the barn wall? Tractor in question is a 4x4 35hp Branson, FEL and, thankfully on the day in question, BH.

1) Use BH to roll tractor away from barn wall and as close back to level as possible. Get every 4x4 I could find and wedge into the ditch under the backwheel. This takes pressure off the barn and eases clench in pit of stomach.

2) Take bucket off FEL to allow room to swing against barn side. Thank goodness for quick disconnect bucket.

3) Gather every piece of scrap plywood, OSB, 2x, 4x, decking, etc. that has been collecting in barn and cover entire top of now discovered ditch for about 20'. Build 2x ramp out of ditch onto wood road for right side tires.

4) Reach as far back and slightly to the left as possible with BH, dig in and with tractor in 1,1 low reverse, puuuuuullllllllllllll very gently in the direction I want to go. Repeat as needed.

5) Put tractor back together and recover that wood not permanently buried in old ditch - for future learning experiences.

6) Avoid area until summer when it will be fully dry and hard as concrete.

7) Put rainwater collection tank in front of scuff on barn side so that I can deny entire thing ever happened.

Wet ditch banks cave in. Got good and stuck today digging out a little ditch I should have done before it started raining.

Come on Barry, I want to know how you got out. I am wondering if the one stabilizer could lift the tractor enough to use the BH to push the back end on to more solid ground.

I've 'discovered' a few...

1. Popping the clutch when it was in 5th gear (expecting it to be in reverse)
2. Wrapping hose/barbwire/rope/etc around the spindle of the Brush hog.
3. Braking at any significant speed when the brakes are split (I forget the proper term)
4. Getting on/off any HST tractor when it's still in gear.
5. Working at dusk/night without working lights.

Ok I just hooked a tow strap to my pickup and pulled it out. Pretty easy really. I could get the bucket and outriggers to lift it up but the backhoe would just sink in the mud and not do alot of anything. I did try putting some 2x6s under the tires (can ya see them in the photo?) but it was just easier to pull it out than screw with boards, blocks and ramps. Man if that is the worst prying, mocking eyes get to see me screw up I feel pretty good.

I ran my foot over with a Kubota B6000 with a bush hog on the back. I was pulling the hog out of the barn but there was alot of junk around it that I didnt want to move. I set it in low range 1st gear and let it drive itself out while I stood alongside to get a better view.
Of course, once the back wheel pins your foot to the ground as it starts running over it you cant reach the clutch to stop it, so I had to wait for it to go all the way over before I could remove my foot. Let me tell you, it goes mighty slow in low range!

He shouldn't have gotten in,always stay well away from such places!

That really didn't answer the poster's question.
Sometimes accidents happen and you get into situations no matter how hard you try to prevent them.
So, LB, how would you get out?
