3. A snapped ratchet strap whizzing by your head sounds like a bullet

A bungee cord that stretches until the metal hook bends...and then gives way does not sound like a bullet but it sure scares the heck out of you when it flys by your head. I won't forget that one for a long time.

I still want to know how KEG, and Eddie got them machines unstuck.....I almost got me little dozer stuck once, thank gawd I was able to jocky it around a bit and gain some purchase on a small part of one of the front tracks. Went from becomming an OHHHHH NOOOOOO to pulling myself free all in about 20 minutes. That lesson hasn't been forgotten.....

what ive learned

a tractor that usually has a 72" wide MMM on it = 72" wide skid plate for the under belly. so i wondered what everyone is talking about when working in brush and getting things caught underneath as it never happend to me....

untill i took the mower deck off this winter.

lodged a 2" sappling between the front axle, and front drive shaft from backing up. destroyed the rubber boot on the front driveshaft ujoint and took me d@mn near 10min of wresting to try to get it out.....

(note to self, fab up skid plate if MMM isnt mounted)

The same cord also feels as bad as getting struck by a bullet, (at least by what I imagine), when the hook that just oncoiled strike the hand that is stretching it from one end of the pickup bed to the other. Pretty good welt/laceration/bruise.

Working in the woods. Dead but still strong, and all but invisible limbs can skewer you. Go slow. Watch for this.

You don't have to be working in the woods or driving a tractor there.
This hazzard is still there even if you're just walking through a woods.

I remember one time being stuck in the mud on the USS Enterprise off Alameda CA.... Added more tugs (tractors on water). Probably 6" dia. tow lines... pull and pull... lines start singing... I run like he@@. Line breaks. I am still here to tell about it. SCAREY.

I'm just a little surprised at all of the stories involving putting a tractor in gear and then getting off of it to do something. I could never imagine doing that and if working by myself I simply make do......stop, take a look, back in the seat, off for another look, back in the seat, etc.


I love them, but, these things can kill you in a heartbeat even during the most seemingly harmless times or menial of tasks.

Bungee cords are very dangerous I hate and love the things.

My dad has a chipped tooth because of a bungee.

My MIL came very close to loosing an eye because of a bungee.
