i have these as well, just used them yesterday to change the fuel filters on the BX in fact, but I feel that they don't always close tight enough for small clamps. the channel-lock model 558 mentioned above looks interesting.

Trying to find best place/price to buy the clamp ring tool. Harbor Freight doesn't show the 2 piece set in my search. Tried Home Depot and Sears. Did find the one on Amazon. Found this page Hose Clamp Pliers | eBay on Ebay which has lots of them for sell at all different price levels. I'll have to get a set or not be able to sleep.

JOHNTHOMAS...I have the pliers you reference and they work great. There is occasionally a time when I wish I had the other kind but all things considered they are my first choice.

And sleep? I couldn't either with that new BX25D just waiting for warmer weather.

I got so desperate to try it out that I used it to lift and push some mattresses into the dumpster.

The platform I just roll, shove, drive over with my tractor until they get broken into pieces which I then throw in the dumpster.
Renters like to leave them by the dumpster for me....they don't want them and neither do I. Small ones will fit in dumpster but Queen and Kings don't with out cutting them up.:fiery:

JT--I went to a Kubota open house recently and right there in the center of the showroom floor was a Kubota BX23D TLB. I must admit it was sweet and it all the typical small acreage guy would need. It's got a nice seat and platform, easy to find and use controls and is deceptively powerful. I'm still using larger equipment but the 23D is on my list for eventual purchase.

The bucket is big and strong enough for any household task I can think of and the backhoe will take care of anything the loader won't.

A wise purchase JT.

First off thanks to JT for starting this thread... the very fact it has stretched to 35 pages perhaps indicates it's value and relevance.

As I've mentioned elsewhere I am the new owner of a BX1860 and, as it's service history is unknown, I plan to do a full fluid and filter change now at 150hrs. I stumbled across this thread via the search function (more on that below) when looking for opinions/advice on SUDT vs UDT vs non-genuine equivalents and front axle lube as I was a little confused by the big difference in viscosity between the two lubricants recommended by Kubota (SUDT or SAE80-90 gear oil).

Anyway I've come to a landing on those two matters... my local dealer only stocks UDT so I'll stick with that for now. As for the front axle I'll use a Synthetic 75W-90 as recommended in another thread on front axle leaks... after all it is basically a differential lubrication application and would seem more suited to a gear oil, especially given that we don't have the extremes of cold weather here.

All the filters and oils are sitting in the shed waiting for me to find time to get to it and with the advice from this thread I'm confident the job will go well.

Now... just my two cents worth on the forum search issue. I generally try as much as possible on a new forum to utilise the search function firstly because it is there and should be a useful tool and secondly to avoid the negative feedback and feelings of guilt sometimes resulting from not using the search function and just posting away. Having said that I have often found that no matter how good the search function is whether it be on an internet forum or in our fancy Electronic Document Management System at work sometimes you just can't find what you want or get overwhelmed by responses where just a few words in a post or document match what you want... I've even had cases where I know a thread or document exists because I've seen it but just can't find it again. Throw in the issues around mis-spellings and language differences and it just gets more complex.

Having said that I try to use the search function there is also much to be said for John's comment that reading posts almost at random... generally hunting about for topics which sound interesting can reveal a whole lot of useful information too. As John said (I think) you can't search for what you don't know you don't know

So I think a degree of tolerance around the matter of searching is warranted and appreciated.

Enough of that... I have oils and filters waiting for me... :tractor:

Sorry I did not get back on the tool price. Somehow I missed your request. It's hard to compare NAPA prices as they can be regional plus they have several discount tiers under the counter price. As retired military I get their best price between "military" and "fleet". Sometimes that is a much as 60%. Lubricants are 45% off for me.

Even though most TBN BX owners disagree with me over the non-use of SUDT2, I have not been convinced their way. I have over 1500 hours in 4 years on mine. Just had some HST work done because of a broken fan and overheating (KTAC paid for it) and they naturally put in SUDT2 which they charged KTAC $100 for. Less than 3 Gals. When it came back I could tell no difference in performance and the so called "whine factor". Way back the shop foreman told me that using the NAPA product I use does not violate the warranty and he agreed it was a suitable product. As a KUBOTA service tech he is obligated to preach the party line and push K branded parts. The repair was not related to the fluid used.

Quick question: Can one effectively, change the HST fluid on a BX25D with the backhoe and FEL detached? I was wondering if the BH and FEL store the fluid in the lines. Reason for asking is I have scheduled for tubes to be put in the front tires and I can fit the machine on my small dump trailer to deliver it to the dealer with the FEL and BH off. The dealer wants a considerable fee to pick up and deliver! I am having the 200 hour service and Hydro fluid changed while there and also the fuel filters so I'll be set before the freezing temps come.

Mowbizz, I see no reason not to. They won't be flushing the lines and cylinder anyway. The lines and cylinders do not all drain to the Tank so do retain what's in there at 0 pressure. Only time I have had to have the dealer work on mine they requested I take the FEL and BH off so they do not have to work around it and possibly charge me extra if the have to take them off for some reason. I think they assume most folks at least do their own 10hr maintenance greasing of the BH and FEL. I do HST fluid change out of a 5 GL container with a pump and have never measured how much fluid is in the tank at system off. I do know the level never rises running or idle.

Thank you! Now to see if the the BX will even fit on my 5x8 dump trailer!
