Not impressed. I've gone 750 in my '93 gas Suburban 4x4. Of course, 42 gallon tank cost $150 to fill!

A 20 year old V-8 gasser pushing a huge 4x4 vehicle that gets almost 18 mpg?

I own a Dodge like the OP is looking at....overall great truck.

On the battery subject, I am convinced that heat kills batteries faster than cold.
For me, the most we get is 3 years. Only exception was a Toyota FJ40 that lasted 7 years.

If you are having trouble with batteries lasting take a look at Odyssey batteries.

Yes, but at the same time, the 426 in street trim was not a big performer; the 440 Six-Packs were faster. It was when you started doing mods when the 426 really shone brightly. Sure, the same could be said of other motors, like the FE427, or Boss429. But not like the 426....

Once warmed up a bit, the FE427 could not keep up in NASCAR. Even the Talladega's. That is part of why Ford only had to make 500 Talladega's in '70, and none of them were 429 or 427 4spd cars. They put those in Mustangs. All the Talladega's were 428 auto's. Mopar had to make a full 500 426 4spd Superbirds, AND make a whole bunch more(2 per dealership). Then on the track, they had addition restrictions.

Drag racing restricted them heavily too

I beg to differ. I've had my Challenger on the dyno, its the 5.7, and I have a few simple bolt ons, exhaust, tuner, cold air intake, and pulled 370 hp at the rear wheels. That's either more or equal to the original 426 hemi. The newer hemis also take well to mods to get even more horsepower. If you get into either the 6.1 or 6.4 hemi, the ones in the SRT8's, they make even more power, and if that's not enough look at the Hellcat, it makes 707 hp. They have had the Hellcat on the dyno and its UNDERATED at 707 hp. They are all pretty special if you ask me. They are just a lot more common then the original 426 hemi, 392 hemi etc.

Hemi engines are nothing special like back in the days. I've had a Honda with Hemi engines, Fords, ect. Even my Kawasaki engine on my Ferris ZTR is a Hemi design.

Chris

Thanks for the entertainment. Now you are trying to run down Dodge by comparing their engines to your lawnmower? LAffin. You sir are hilarious. I remember last week when you said a eco boost out tows a 1 ton diesel dually and that a eco diesel is equal to a mid size SUV. And now this. I need to keep track of these and do a greatest hits list for you. It would be hilarious. Top it off with at least 100 posts where you remind us that Ford didn't' take tax dollars from the government, which we all know because you put it on your avi as well. Thanks again for the entertainment.

Man let's not start this crap again. This thread is fun, talking about cummins, grits (both types), hemis, drag racing. Who cares if DP has a hemi on his lawnmower. The REAL hemi was bad to the bone, a lot like the 427 BB Chevy with 3 2bbl carbs and side pipes. Man those cars sounded good. My favorite part of dukes of hazard the movie was when he fired up the charger after cooter fixed it up. Man what a sweet sound.

Not starting anything at all. I simply pointed out how entertaining he is and thanked him. My lawnmower actually has an ecoboost briggs engine. Only burns a gallon of fuel all season and has more pulling power than my dodge with cummins motor. Used my lawnmower to pull out the county grader last winter when he was stuck when my truck wouldn't pull it out. My lawnmower didn't take any tax dollars to build either.

Yes!!! The mower on the left has the hemi and the one doing the wheelie has the ecoboost (obviously), and didn't take tax dollars to build.
