Is that 07 the 6.7l diesel? with more emissions?

In 2005, the heaviest config was DRW long bed Quad with diesel. Cant speak to the 07's or what they weigh

They put the 5.9 in the early 07s and the 6.7 in the later 07s. I had a early 07 mega cab dually and now have an 06 mega cab SRW 2500.

Since in general, manual transmissions result in better mileage than autos how much does that factor into the mileage reports?

As an aside why did Ram make auto the standard and manual a special option. It seems that companies have really moved away from manual transmissions over the years and there are a lot of reports that say that auto gives higher tow capabilities than manual which I do not understand.

Yes those are great engines so no worries. On the other hand the truck itself may fall apart though. Lol

I know the trucks with manuals had the engine de-tuned quite substantially. I guess they have more faith in the autos, and I also suppose it's because the torque is applied much more smoothly to the drivetrain, especially with certain people behind the wheel. I think I heard of people snapping output shafts on the manuals.

When did they fix the dowel rod issue with the 5.9? What did they do to fix it?

It's not the manual transmission that's the issue its the clutch. They put the strongest quietest clutch on the market in them. They handle the 650 lb ft torque fine more than that they start slipping. I ran into the clutch slipping issue with mine after adding quite a bit of power. I upgraded the clutch to a south bend and have no further concerns on towing anything under 30,000 lbs combined. The reason ram doesn't offer a better clutch from the factory is noise while I don't find it noisy at all some do.

Sorry there bud, guess since your from Mo.,then that must be the way they do it there. Never saw anybody here in the south use salt on them, usually just butter & sugar.
And for the record I don't use either, never been hungry enough to eat grits.

I never even heard of putting sugar or milk on grits, where are you calling in the south? It is salt, butter and maybe cheese if you get fancy.

IS that using the trip computer or hand figured? And what configuration is yours? Std cab-long bed? Quad? etc.

Mine is a 05 quad cab long bed 4x4. the heaviest possible config. (with me and a few tools, its 8k) Took a road trip right after I got it. ALL freeway and cruise set at 69-70mph. Trip computer showed a tad over 21. But by had was ~18.5.

With short trips, stop and go, all towing the trailer (total weight ~11.5k and 8 tires), My computer shows ~11.5-12, by had it is 10. I am sure if I wasnt using a 24k trailer to tow my 5k tractor, it would be better though.

To the OP, if the price is right, I'd jump on it too. IF it is priced fairly, not necessarily a good deal, but just average market value, Id hold out for what you really want. But as others said, as long as it was driven once in awhile to get oil pumping around, you will have no issues with drivetrain. ITs when they set for LONG times that the oil film dissipates and you start getting surface rust inside the engine, rear, trans, etc.

Hand calculated. 3500 quad cab short bed single rear wheels 4x4.

Gets around 14 mph pulling a 10,000 lbs trailer.

Wonder how much the SRW and short bed effect that? Probably sheds 800+/- pounds.

And how may tires on that 10k?

When I load my tractor on the older car-hauler bumper pull, thats ~8800lbs total. And only singles for tires, so half as much rubber to drag around. That gets me 14ish

I like mine with syrup. Surprised I havent heard that yet? unless I missed it.

I also like my scrambled eggs with syrup too:thumbsup: Definitely not one of those ketchup types:confused2:

".. Definitely not one of those ketchup types ..."

So, what is wrong with ketchup (catsup) on scrambled eggs?

By the way, the scrambled eggs should be hard; not that runny semi-liquid stuff. If I wanted that, I would have ordered "over easy"

To the OP, just to clarify, your Cummins will not run on grits. Funny how a thread about a cummins engine ended up discussing grits. Love it.

Grits it made from corn, no? You could possibly create biodiesel from it. :)

I believe that ethanol can be made from brewer's grits, so if it had a gasoline engine I suppose a case could be made that it would run on grits.

Around here, GRITS may also refer to Girls Raised In The South.
