I'd love to have a new Ram 3500, but for now I daily drive this old cummins 24Valve.

I'd love to be in a position to buy a new 6.7L Ram but, that ain't happening. My two 5.9L Cummins do the job just fine and I don't want to be in debt $70K + for a truck. Around here, that almost half a house..........

I'm curious and wonder if there were any "after market" upgrades done to this Ram that burnt up?

My son runs with a crowd that likes to "soup up" their diesels, two of which have had engine fires. One a Ford, the other a Chevy, not that it really matters what brand they were because, in both cases, the tweaking is what caused the fuel fire and ended up costing a bunch of money to get the vehicles back in service. Not as bad as what was shown in that video but, won't try to suggest that I don't wonder why.

The truck had aftermarket tires and wheels, other than that it was BONE STOCK.... If your interested in more details the below link will give a full 15 page account of my situation as it happened. It's all real and it all happened to ME.

Run away form RAM, don't walk, RUN!!!!!!!!!!! They are an awful company and anyone that reads the whole thread I posted above will be hard pressed to disagree with me if they were in my situation.:fiery:

I never said I was a RAM expert. Friends who have the 2010 and after are replacing wheel bearings/ball joints etc earlier than they should have to--Well south of 100K. Same issues that Rams have had over the last 20 some years. Ride quality isn't what I was referring to because it's something I could care less about on any truck.

I NEVER said Rams were a bad truck, in fact I said they are pretty nice. Lighten up some.

Sorry. Didn't mean to be harsh. Just that the very thing you said hadn't improved forever and caused problems is the thing that actually improved dramatically and succeeded for them so I felt it needed clarification. Didn't interpret at all that you were talking about components like bearings or ball joints from your comment:

Suspensions over the decades have not been improved much and cause a ton of issues

Guess the way your phrased things is what caused me to feel the need to counter.

My father 90+ years old has a 2009 that he purchased new. It now has 245,000 trouble free miles but is showing some rust after all of these upstate new york winters.

I own a 1500 with the Diesel and I love it. I recently upgraded it with a Green Diesel Engineering ECU and it turned a very good truck into a great one. I'm getting 25 mpg in full size 4x4 truck that has the power of a V8. I get 16-17 mpg towing the tractor or my camp trailer. Great truck.

Sorry about your bad luck with your Ram truck, did you have insurance? Personally have had great luck with my 2 dodge Ram products 2004 5.9 diesel & 2016 Ram 6.4 hemi.Every Truck/Car maker has there own set of issues and lemons..I have owned chevy, dodge, ford, toyota trucks all came with certain quirks.

back in June I went and test drove each make of trucks - all brand new crew cabs 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. liked them all, great trucks! problem was the prices....

I'm not sure if it was the deals during the time but I ended up getting a big horn 2500 Ram w/Cummins for significantly less than a ford f150 echoboost 10 speed or the chevy 1500 w/8 speed... I thought the truck was overkill for what I needed at the time but now I don't have to upgrade when I need more towing capacity. And after owning it for 6 months I cant see ever going back to a 1/2 ton pickup.

I got lucky I worked a job where we were issued 3/4 ton trucks from Ford, Chevy, and Ram. I got to run around in all thre units and the Ram stood out for ride, handling, looks, power and versatility. It averaged 23 mpg. The Ford was a hot rod, got 19 mpg or less no matter what. The Chevy was sedate, fair mileage and lack luster handling. It got a max of 20-21 mpg as a max. The Chevy had some really bad design notes that put it off the back.

The Ram just stood out, so that is what I aimed at.

If you end up going to the dark side and buying a ram, get the Ram boxes in the bed. That is the only thing I miss about crispy Ram truck.
