Dodge ram

I was getting really amped up to save towards an ecodiesel 1500 RAM when they were first coming out. But then I checked the rated payload figures. Most trims of RAM can only do 900 lbs total payload... a total joke. So with 4 guys in your quad cab, you can safely haul... 300 lbs in the bed? And it'll probably still look squatted on the coil suspension. RAM 1500s are the best pickup for the suburban weekend warrior... don't see to many of them as work trucks, probably for a reason. (flame suit on)

Where in the world did you get info saying "most trims of RAM can only do 900 lbs total payload"?? The following Ram web site has completely different information. I'm all for giving a product a hard time when it deserves it, but only when you have accurate criticisms.

Ram Trucks - Towing & Payload Capacity Guide

As for squatting when loaded, this is a picture of my 2010 1500 loaded up at about the max towing capacity (10,000 lbs or more). Doesn't seem extreme.

I was very happy with mine for 120K+ miles.

I agree, I just looked at the link you posted on allowable payload. I posted earlier how I actaully weighed one of our trucks at work. Looking at the website it looks like our V6 work trucks have a payload of about 1700 lbs, which seems to check with what ours weighed with some equipment and tools on board.

Think he is thinking about the ecodiesel’s numbers. The rest have a higher payload.

None of the listed 1500's have a capacity of 900. Even if you filter that list on EcoDiesel the majority are still somewhere above 1250#. Just not seeing it. Looks more like a hater to me.

Maybe the new ones have a higher rating but when you get a fully loaded 2014 ecodiesel with ram box largest cab and longes bed. The payload was in the 800 lb range. But I doubt may people went this route. Most had payload capacities over 1,100 lbs. IMG_1477.JPGIMG_1476.JPG

OK, so the fully loaded, weight-wise (Laramie, 4x4, Rambox) 2014 model has a capacity that low. But that's a far cry from "most trims of RAM can only do 900 lbs total payload". Looking through your chart and the rest of the variations at the source web page for that chart (http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2014/docs/ram/rammlup1500.pdf) shows that most are 1200# or more. For instance, a Sport model similar to my 2010 (Sport, 4x4, 5'7" plain box, Hemi) has a capacity of 1420#. Not sure what else they dump into a Laramie Limited since my Sport was pretty much fully loaded except for rear seat DVD and a rear seat heater so I'm going to say the sub-1000# capacity is a fringe case. Just call it out as such, is all I ask for the original poster that complained about it. Misguiding blanket statements are how we get bad info on the web that someone else will find in a Google search someday and take as fact.

I'd agree on the 1500 and that's applicable to any brand. If you're looking to work a truck, move up to an applicable rating. While I fully admit to being a Cummins fan, get the brand that most satisfies your desires.

Ford recently went with aluminum bodies. I found that intriguing. I also transport on the side and happened to haul a wrecked late model Ford to a body shop and got to asking the owner of the shop about the differences in working the aluminum bodies versus the steel bodies. His reply was interesting, he said, they don't repair the aluminum bodies, they simply replace the parts. Said all the body parts for the Fords come in already treated and ready to be painted and installed. Whether this is good or bad is up to the individual but, he said, he wouldn't buy a Ford. Just something to think about.

I got one all you Dodge guys can't say to much I own a 01 Durango with the 5.9 but oldest son decided to get his own Dodge he went and found a rare one I don't remember the year but it had the viper v-10. Needless to say by the time he figured out what a waste it was it pass everything but a gas station and the time it spent in the dealer ship he could of got him a brand new one for half of what put into it.

Dodge V10 or Ford V10, doesn't matter, both use fuel like it's going out of style. I'm a Cummins fan, don't care what it's put into. They all have their pros and cons.
