yea prob so but thats what i was told by the old man, hahaha he did have a shifty eye hahaha jk, well i tryed the starting fluid and it wanted to start but wouldnt start plus i herd some knocking is that normal or was that a sign of things to come

My DF254 had a clogged fuel filter. I changed the canister filter but did not know about the banjo filter. Anyhow, when it was trying to start, but failing, there was a horrible knocking sound- really sounded like the engine was failing badly. I think it was just the sound of a small amount of fuel igniting in a big cylinder.

yea thats a good way to put it trying to start but failing, that makes me feel a lot better knowing that it wasnt a bad rod jurnal i was hearing, so seeling that the starting fluid wouldnt fire it over but make it almost start does that mean bad rings or blown head gasket or both or none of the above hahha man i thought these diesels were supp to be easy, what next guys im open to any advice, and ross ive got all my fingers toes and some other parts of my body that i cant say on here crossed hahah

Ether, ie. starting fluid, is one good way to ruin a diesel engine.
It's like throwing water into a running gasoline engine.

Keep in mind you're dealing with pressures that at minimum run to 350# on the stater . And that's at boarder line.
No more ether!

You're back to fuel now.

As with all diesels on start up what you're hearing is pre-ignition of the fuel.
In the case of a normal start it's because theres not enough heat inbodied in the engine to vaporize the fuel.
In the case of ether it's because the fuel is much more volatile than gasoline even and ignites a lot......awhole lot sooner then the crude called diesel.

What are the compression readings?

hey they told me to do it hahaha, so it trying to start told me what, the rings are good? the head gasket is ok? its still a fuel delivery problem even tho the injectors fired off good ? im extra lost here guys and yea i didnt like using the starting fluid and im glad to hear that the knock i herd is ok but what do i do next, Thanks again everyone

Sorry, I don't remember but how did you test the injectors? What pressures did they chatter at? And the vaporization? It was good?
