Geographic for sure as ATM robberies/assaults and overall crime growing up very real... almost always in the top 3 or 5 nationwide.

The rest is just expecting full service like the business window and not standing out in the weather qued up waiting my turn...

Not so much now but there was a time when I might have 10k in cash in my shirt pockets... and having a uniformed armed guard in tactical gear hold open the door is very reassuring!

Maybe spoiled too because I don't drive to the bank as it is always a minute or two walk from wherever I have worked...literally next 100 yards away.

When the Saving and Loan was pushing them at the teller window the teller said they get a bonus for meeting a quota so I asked if she uses one and she said all the time but never use the ones around here as customers get robbed all the time...

With doubtful checks the tellers have told me at the window It's not good at this time or account closed... which can save me a week of thinking it was good.

We don't use much cash. When we do want some, we go to the ATM. I think I might take cash out about every 3-4 months at most. And then it's usually only right before we leave for a trip out of town, or to a place that I know only takes cash.

I don't think I have ever paid an ATM fee in my entire life. I know a lot of ATM's do not charge fees.

I used to use the walk up ATM at one bank I use but they took it out for security reasons (moved it to a Drive In location) and I pretty much just stopped using ATM's about that time. I do carry cash but I rarely spend cash.

We are also fortunate that the institution we use has many drive up ATMs in well lit parking lots. You can easily see if someone would be walking up to you while using the ATM. Some of the drive-up ATMs are in the outer line at the drive-through tellers, and some are just little stand-alone ATM huts in the outer parking lots of shopping centers, fast food establishments, the American Legion, etc... really a great convenience.

As far as on-line banking, there's a limit of 6 transactions a month out of your savings account. But there's unlimited use of the checking account on-line. So you can make electronic deposits to your checking account as often as you want. And you can make transfers out of your checking account into your savings as often as you want. You can pay bills on-line out of your checking account as often as you like. You just can't make more than 6 transfers out of your savings in a month. Again, it's very convenient.

I don't think I have used a walk up ATM in years. All of them around here are drive up. And of course we are always armed, So I am not concerned. But I don't think we have no where near the crime as you guys out there have.

Today's Banking practices have taken all the fun out of "Mail Box Money".

I do still like to go to the inside tellers windows to make deposits.

Direct Deposit is convenient but not as much fun with the big checks.

I use the debit card very little, We mostly use the credit card (B of A) as we pay it off every month so no fees. In fact we jump to put all sorts of payments ON the credit card as the rewards add up to real money. We MAKE money by using the credit card therefore put everything possible on it. The B of A continues to pay us money to use their card and they never make a dime off of us. I guess they keep hoping we won't make a payment for a while so they can soak us. Ain't gonna happen :)

I too have never paid a atm fee, and have made money on credit cards for past 20 years. When I was buying loads of generators yearly I was making 2% cash back on cards....I am starting to miss that. I was making 3-4 grand cash by using the card.....this year I’ll be lucky to make a few hundred. Oh well.

I access all my accounts online so hardly ever go to bank. Have some stuff in safe deposit box but don’t have to access that stuff.

Well I'm a bit different then many of you, I do not have an ATM card.
Never had one don't desire one. Then to top that off I still use cash quite often for small purchases.
Big box stores and purchases of $50 or so I use a credit card, one with cash back.
I still enjoy going in the bank and seeing the cashiers. I do most of my monthly bills on line.
I haven't check the local bank lobbies, the drive ups are open.

Now I am starting to worry...

My Credit Union that I love just closed its doors system wide... with no notice.

I posted before that all the local Wells Fargo branches closed... folks this is getting serious because in every declaration front the White House down it was said Banking is Essential and no need to pull your money out.

The notice says ATM and Mobil Banking open for business.

Well, I guess that's great if you have an ATM card or own a Cell Phone... the phone I carry is employer owned and personal APPS not allowed.

Mom has a share certificate and received a notice of dormant account... I called in and was told when she comes in to renew or transfer her share certificate end of April the dormancy will go away with activity and until then it will be OK but frozen until she comes in.

If I was OK with a nameless online bank we would have one... but we don't... we have brick and mortar based in our community...

Maybe this is only a California thing but what happens here doesn't stay here.

On a second note... several of my small business friends with employees up to 25 have been trying to contact their banks regarding the announced SBA loans... all of their banks are closed too...

Federal Law says banks cannot be closed for more than a prescribed amount of days... or maybe the laws from the Depression no longer apply? Don't know what it says about credit unions?

"what happens here doesn't stay here"

And......that is the VERY unfortunate part,...... for those of us who live in the other 49 states!

I do the same!
2% on everything card (CitiCard)
5% on gas/groceries/drug stores (BBVA)
3% on internet purchases (BofA)
$1100+ cash last year!
