Drywall contractor wants to bankrupt me!

It shouldn’t take very long to complete the drywall. I’ve seen crews hang that size job in 2 days and finish it in 2 days. 2 weeks would be a generous amount of time. I think running the heat longer than a week after they’re done is a waste of energy. Moisture isn’t a problem here in the winter and is probably never a problem in Nevada.

On "production" homes, they always used propane "hot hat's" to keep the house above freezing to satisfy the drywall contractors. The d/w contr. was responsible for 1 year, the builder much longer. On a 10k s/f custom I was involved in where the d/w was more than a one week event, the builder had a temporary propane furnace that was an older "take out" unit hooked to a plenum that allowed several very long round ducts to distribute the heat. As for drying, elec is much better as propane adds moisture.

Blame the drywallers. Curious in the USA. Do they all smoke and drink as much as here? ...................................
NO!

When we built our new custom house six years ago, there was no drinking on the job-site and the only smoking that was done was at lunch time and absolutely no smoking inside of the house structure. That was part of their own company's rules. And the roofing sub-contractor's crew was a great bunch of guys to work with and their cleanup was meticulous.

My heating contractor keeps older units around and installs them with temporary hookups during the drywall process. He said it was it was way easier then trying to protect the new unit.

I wonder how much money the industry is putting into R&D to come up with alternative types of joint compound and texture material etc. that is not so climate restrictive...?

That makes sense, keep the dust and junk out of the new ducts and furnace.

If you can get get a good drywall job you are lucky.

To me, drywallers are like auto body people. They are always pointing out the defects that someone did before, and then they will be the ones whoes crappy work is pointed out later.

Ever heard of "Buttboards"?
Google: trim-tex.com
Then go to ... "backing for drywall".
The drywall butt joint is made BETWEEN the studs, rather than ON the studs.
"Buttboard"... is a trademarked product.
Makes the best looking crack proof wall you will ever see.
I made my own "Buttboards" using OSB. 10 years later not a hint of a crack, and walls are completely flat.
Absolute minimum sanding!
You can request a "Buttboard" sample, and then use it as a pattern.
