Dump Trailer Tool Box

Finished my 12' dump trailer and need to build or buy a container to hold straps, battery, and electric pump. It came out as an odd shape, 27" at the rear to a front taper approx three feet in width. Anyone have any ideas on construction ( tin or aluminum ) and needed features?

I found those pictures also. The problem lies in the limited space I have to place one. I am leaning towards sheet metal bending the structure to the size of the V hitch C channels. I have acess to aluminum but would have to bolt it as I don't have a tig welder.

Harbor freight sells (or sold) two different size boxes I used this one on my ATV trailer. Locking Steel Trailer Tongue Box

it might be big enough for the pump and battery. It is close to the size of the box on my dump trailer.

You could look it over for details on how to build or buy it.

I built an expanded metal compartment under the bed between the
frame rails...works WELL for me. Heck I am going to expand it and make
a compartment for my tarp as well as a broom and other things
when other projects are finishe up.

When you build the tool box, keep in mind if you ever need to use a WD hitch.

Take a look at the Bri-Mar trailers. My uncle has one and it has a tool box and spare tire all mounted under the dump bed like the one pictured above.

Artisan that is a great idea for a tarp, broom, straps, tools and anything else one could stuff in there. Never gave it a thought and with a grated bottom liner all is secure. I do need a hitch box though because my power unit is 14" plus tall and I don't want to stick it out the bottom. Ease of battery removal also a factor.
I will check HF... Had no idea they had them.

The bottom is expanded metal, I added a lil expanded metal section
along the top so it is impossible for anything to fall out. It is like a clam,
when the top closes it makes a box so nothing can fall out.
There is a TON of room under a dump trailer...

Mine's a deck over so has some room under it but the piston location may be in the way, I may need to break out the welder...

When I thought of it, it was an epiphany, I mean the light bulb didn't just
come on, it came on and blew up, and I instantly started making it. It
was fun to do knowing how cool it would be to stow my stuff all related
to my tractor in a protected secure area. :licking:

I am SURE others have done it but they didn't share there idea w/ this
list now did they? My way is called "Paying It Forward" and I will
continue to do so (unless I see a potential to make a buck :laughing: ) even then
I will ...............

Here are a few more pics. NOTE where I point. That is the upper part of
the clam shell that disallows any of my possessions to jump out when
I hit a bump. When the dump portion closes it creates a "Box" so my
stuff, remains "my" stuff!

I hope others see this and build on my idea and SHARE their builds
with others here on this list.

I also had a thought to make a spare fuel tank in there along w/ a compressed air refillable tank.

I need a spare for my trailer, anyone close got one?

I am currently in negotiations w/ a guy who has a nice Warn Winch that
I want to add to this trailer. THAT is a whole new thread when it happens
and it will be the CremDeLaCrem' I say! HA! :laughing:

They are actually required on a lot of vehicles for trailers over 5,000#.

Solved the battery / hydraulic pump storage box. I built one out of 20 guage sheet metal. I could not find a prebuilt unit with the right deminsions I have that would look like it would belong. The oil reservoir and pump are 16" tall and I needed this distance to make everything fit. It turned out fine and for less than twenty dollars in material. I had enough left over to make a mid mounted mower transition to eight inch flex hose for a lawn vacuum I am building.

Love it when a plan comes together! Good job! I started making an addition
to the under-bed storage on my trailer yesterday. This one will really holds
