EcoBOOST

Picked up a f150 fx4 with the ecoboost today. It's fast and for 50 grand it better be. I lease my vehicles for three years within the bumber to bumber warranty, any problems I don't pay for them when the warranty expires I get a new vehicle. It ay be more expensive but never have to pay for a repair and am always driving a new vehicle

Not bashing you but its the Red Neck mentality that does not want a V6. Trust me, I had it also. I was always more is better till I got smoked by a 5.9L 6 cylinder Cummis versus my 7.3L V8 Powerstroke. Same was true with the Buick Grand National and many imports. I currently have a BMW 335I with a inline 3.0L 6 cylinder with twin turbos. All factory. It will do zero to 60 in 4 seconds and 1/4 mile in 12 seconds from the factory and will flat blow the doors of most V8 US built "muscle cars" like Chargers, Mustangs, and Camaro's.

What I am saying here is the mentality that you need a V8 is just that, in your mind. These new motors like the one in my BMW or the Eco Boost are where its at.

The same mentality was true in my area with import trucks. Not the little ones of the 80's and 90's. I am talking the new ones like the Titan and Tundra. Right now I would say the working men in my area like Farmers, Builders, Landscapers, ect drive primarily Toyota Tundras and Ford trucks. Trust me, its weird to see a Toyota pulling 3 hay wagons or a bean head off a Combine but the sales are strong in this area and have bumped out GM and Dodge from the number two spot behind Ford.

Chris

I certainly don't have a red neck attitude about 6 cylinder vehicles...my v* can do the same job as that v6 with turbos and ony gain 1-2 miles per gallon..I don't see the advantage.

Around here, the import trucks are few and far between...The guys at work that had them dumped them for domestics due to meilage and other issues.

I run it on 87 almost all of the time...Get an average 16mpg in mixed driving....I'm not really easy on it...Can get near 20 on pure interstate driving. Could probably do better if I drove it like an adult..The gas pedal is just too much fun.:D

Consider yourself lucky. Not often does someone get better mileage than the EPA sticker. I am getting 17 in mixed and 20-20.5 on the interstate at 70 mph. My current tank with 150 miles on it shows 17.1 around town. I too like the go pedal every now and then. You mentioned paying extra for the ecoboost but it is only a $1000 option over the 5.0 litter vs a $2000 option for the 6.2 liter on both the ford and gm lineups which is actually a $1000 savings. It gm 6.2 engine is definitely an impressive engine and would have been my engine of choice had I gone gm instead of ford.

I had heard that the Eco was more than $1000...If that's all it is, that's not too bad...I'm not really out of whack whith the EPA ratings...I'm pretty much within their posted ranges that was on my window sticker...My last 4 GM trucks have all gotten this kind of mileage. It goes up slightly when we go to "winter blend" around here...Wish they would knock it off with the boutique blends.

The $2000 premim for the 6.2 was well worth the money for me...In the end, with all of the rebates and stuff, that premium disappeared as this truck was a realtively expensive (sticker) oddball that sat around the dealer lot for a while..I think the floorplan worked to my advantage on this one.

My fathers widow sticker shows the EB as a $600 option on his trim package over the stock motor which would have been the 5.0L V8.

Just last week I put a deposit down on a 2012 F150 Harley edition, it is used with 5000 miles. I'm trading a 2011 F350 4x4 reg cab with the gas 6.2 and that averages 13.5 mpg. I drove the Eco boost and it goes good, but for so e reason, I just like a V8 in a truck.

My 2011 was $750 msrp option . It didn't matter in 2011 what package it was as long as it started with the 5.0 liter. Don't remember the invoice cost but it was something like $695. The 2013 models are a $1095 option and I think it was that on 2012 as well.

You wouldn't have even had the option for the Eco on the Harley edition. They only came with the 6.2 liter. Demographics for those buyers wouldn't appreciate the quiet motor. :)

Check that Harley addition closely. The ones I have seen have about 6,500# tow limit due to gearing and spring package.

It very well may have been $695. I know it was not more. It just seemed like $600 range stuck in my head when I ordered his truck for him. I got it the way I wanted it. He only got to chose the color. I plan on buying it off him when his lease is up next year.
