I'm sorry for your job loss but you are erroneous in blaming regulations.

Vt. Castings Announces 30 Layoffs in Vermont | www.ourherald.com | Randolph Herald

some quotes:

Btw there are some prominent US companies that routinely lay off thousands of employees every year, while posting and projecting record earnings at the same time. Sadly in today's corporate culture, layoffs don't tell you anything about how well a company is doing.

Although there were seasonal layoffs, the layoff in July 2013 hit some 30-35 year employees...not a seasonal thing by far. Also, the layoff hit areas that were normally immune to layoffs. This wasn't seasonal...this was downsizing.
They are looking into some new products that might go quite well (and profitable), but not in the wood stove end of the business.
BTW, I wasn't blaming the regs on that layoff....that was a business decision to reduce cost on a highly leveraged buyout. My response was to a claim by Sodo that the wood stove business was thriving...it's not.

sodo,

You've made it crystal clear you favor tighter government and more regulations. I really don't care what personal connections you may/not have with promoting new wood burning regulations.
The internet is for the exchange of ideas. You've attempted to squash every opposing view/opinion, from your own opinion, with something like 5:1 posts of yours to any other single poster. WE GET YOUR OPINION.

How about just letting some other peoples oposing views sit as written, without you feeling the need to try to stifle and dominate the entire thread?

It is typical of SODO like any other far left green anti everything hippy types that are full of total BS and think THEIR opinion matters most in this world and no one's opinion or facts will get in their way of shouting over everyone else so that they can feel better about nothing...

FYI SODO the EPA are increasing more regulations, they were open for public comment thru January this year to increase the intensity of the current regulations and make even more stringent rules for stove manufactures to follow. I posted on this months ago when EPA has public comments open on these new more stringent rules NOT some 1988 or 1996 laws these are NEW 2013/2014 laws. I linked to that thread in like page 2 or 3 of this thread.
Ordinances and Regulations | Burn Wise | US EPA there is a thread I started in January on the comments with links to all these NEW rules.

Perhaps this is at the wrong end of the wrong thread, but has anyone got any information on IMPROVING the efficiency and utility of all our existing wood stoves?

I know I can add a cat to the flue pipe, but does that really do it?

I've run the same Fischer Papa Bear for nearly 30 years, "I'm thinking about adding some "secondary air" pipes up top to "eat the smoke". But, If there were a better way, I would like to know of it.

TIA

The single best thing is to burn well seasoned hardwoods and use the damper properly.

Is that what the EPA ban is all about? Improper use of the damper?

I don't have a damper fitted, took it out 20 years ago. It seemed to stifle draft
