If I'd had 5 shop visits in 220 hours I'd be looking for a different tractor.

The thought has cross my mind, I still have four years on the payments though, lol. I noticed that NH has moved back to the HST, and beefed up the drive train warranty to five years. There are a lot of pluses with the tractor and when they get it sorted I will be more content. I have till the end of February to make up my mind and mostly it depends on the money at the end of the month. I appreciate the opinions shared.

Well, I'd be pretty disappointed for sure. I've got 1200 hrs on mine. No leaks or problems I didn't cause myself by my own stupidity (busted door).
I don't do the extended warranty thing, have won the bet so far on every item. In your case, your history is not good, guess it looks like a reasonable need even at that cost.

That tractor must have been built on a monday after a bad weekend. My 30+ year old yanmar hasn't been to or in the shop since I've owned it about 8 yrs ( except for loader install)

Any chance, given the service record of your tractor, that you can negotiate a reduced price, or time extension for the same price, on the extended warranty? Worth asking.

All, in all, it would be peace of mind to buy the warranty, and it could save you money, but I would feel like I shouldn't have to buy peace of mind for an expensive machine that is supposed to work.

If it were me, I'd get the extended wty. Keep in mind that NH is bringing back some of the Shibaura built with a revised CVT. I think I'd talk to the dealer and see if there is anything that NH would do in reguards as to possibly trading in the "problem child". BTY, get the Premier.

I'm with Dave on this too, the selling dealer makes a decent % on selling the certified warranty, and its not the dealer that takes the hit (for a claim) its the company and the dealer gets reimbursed for the repairs .

We extended our warranty an additional 5 years on a car with a lot of spendy stuff to repair even tho it's been reliable, and got three prices (same plan from three dealers) that were $3100, $3400 and $3900 - we went with the middle price from the original selling dealer at the end of the day.

I did this for several reasons, 1) a repair today on any major component - suspension, transmission is $2-4K, or a minor component is $600-1200 2) the car has been under bumper-bumper warranty since new, so for a prospective buyer there are no major issues that are hidden/not repaired 3) If we elect to sell it the warranty is transferable and in the end should bring more value to the unit.

I would buy it and if you use it, with the history you have had, I would probably trade it in 2 years if you can afford to, as having that may issues with a tractor doesn't bode well long term.

I have never kept a car after it was dinged just the way I feel, I get the same feeling with the troubles with this tractor, however trading it in now is not and option but when it gets close to end of the extended warranty that definitely will be there to consider. You guys have convinced me to go for the warranty, thanks, I guess it was a no brainer so what does that say about me, lol.

I got a letter that says I can extend my bumper to bumper warranty for three more years for $1407 , what is the consensus here?

I have a standing policy of not buying extended warranties (insurance) on any thing. Has saved me buco bucks in my 77 year life span. If my tractor transmission failed in 200 hrs, I would get rid of it not spend more big bucks. I have a 2011 BX 25 with 600+ hrs in less than 2 years and no problems. In fact with your experience I would question buying another NH.

I kind of got a hang up about extended warranties. It still just seems odd to me that someone wants me to pay them more money in case something I bought from them breaks. To me, it's almost an incentive for negative behavior. Asking extra money for an extended warranty when I buy something new, to me, is an admission from the seller that this product isn't going to last very long. But, then again, maybe I am just strange.

That's one way of looking at it. Better than trying to guess which of the extended warranties will pay off and which won't. I believe you will come out ahead that way by quite a bit. I have bought a few extended warranties for expensive appliances that live in another state with my Mom, for reasons that make sense for my situation.

The case here is that the tractor has a known repair history and the OP is going to have to live with that for several years. He needs a strategy that will best minimize his cost of ownership over that time period. The cost of the warranty is less than legal fees, so that route doesn't look good really, unless it becomes an "on principle" thing and money comes in second, and you have time to waste and enjoy aggravation. It's a tough call IMO.
